Quoting: Yellow Bird in TX I heard about a person getting a test in an ER with results in 1 & 1/2 hours later... I am just curious as to how the ER got results that fast? Anybody know? Many hospitals are able to do "in house" testing. The ones your pharmacists collects are sent to a reference lab. Many hospitals had the instrumentation, such as Cepheid, that came out with a reagent pack specific for Covid that was rushed through for FDA approval. As personal as supplies are limited they are only doing testing on admitted patients or those coming into the hospital for an elective procedure. |

Then again, maybe she did. This was third hand info. My friend does not know the specifics. Maybe there was a lapse of a day or so. No one is lying. Again, like I said... I don't spin my own fucking wheels--that is lame. I do apologize to you. I was not accusing you of lying. I was not going after you. This question just popped into my mind and I asked it. It really was not directed at you or to be critical of you at all. My bad. Still.....I am curious as to an answer if anybody knows. no worries. I am not being defensive. This is just chat, but no hard feelings whatsoever. I just have a feeling there a shitload of bad/purposefully tainted tests out there. Just to boost numbers. I mean, it's 100 degrees here in AZ and the cases are exploding? For a coronavirus? BS!! sorry if I'm a bit curt about this, but I get worked up when I see false information spread about this thing. Its dangerous for the public and our hospitals are already overwhelmed. Me too. |

My wife's hospital just started using Cepheid for the emergent cases and the accuracy rate of that test is around 80%. They were dealing with the abbot test which has proven itself to be near useless. Naturally we have been keenly aware of testing methods because none of the hospital staff want to get infected when having to do an emergent case. The abbot test was so useless for a while they were treating every emergent like they were covid positive (N95 and face shield PPE, 3 hour OR cleaning procedures, etc) to try to keep everyone safe. |

User ID: 36650007 United States 07/09/2020 12:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’ve got people in Arizona much closer to me than a friend of a friend, close family. They both work in a hospital. They told me that the hospital told them to count everyone with similar symptoms as covid19 positive. Every person in hospital gets tested everyday and each positive test for one person counts as a new case. So if 1 guy gets tested 5 times and they’re all positive, that counts as 5 people/new cases. Quoting: Miss Bunny Swan I know that is all insane and wrong, misleading and erroneous. And I see how it can happen. They sould not be counting tests, but counting the test results of individuals. Anonymous Coward User ID: 79026793 United States 07/09/2020 12:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | unless you are talking about the rapid tests. They are notoriously inaccurate and are only used on patients that need to be admitted in an emergency or need life saving surgery when there isn't time for a PCR test. The vast majority of testing done in Arizona is a swab PCR test, which is highly accurate. However, it takes from 24 hours to up to a week to get results back depending on how swamped the labs are. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79110330 If she was testing and retesting within hours, then it is a rapid test, and very very few of those are being done. There are two rapid tests. One has a 50% accuracy rate, and the Abbot test I believe is 80%. Where I work at we are using the Abbot test,,,results in about 12 minutes. Tested 13 times so far and negative still |
