Trump White House Implements Executive Order on Online Censorship: Prevents Tech Giants from Altering Users’ Free Speech – Demands Transparency of Moderation Practices

On Wednesday afternoon the Trump White House published their executive order on online censorship. The EO prevents social media giants from altering or editorializing free speech.

The executive order also demands the social media giants provide transparency requirements for their moderation practices!

On Monday, the Department of Commerce, as directed by President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship, filed a petition to clarify the scope of Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act. The petition requests that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarify that Section 230 does not permit social media companies that alter or editorialize users’ speech to escape civil liability. The petition also requests that the FCC clarify when an online platform curates content in “good faith,” and requests transparency requirements on their moderation practices, similar to requirements imposed on broadband service providers under Title I of the Communications Act. President Trump will continue to fight back against unfair, un-American, and politically biased censorship of Americans online.

I have no involvement in any ownership or moderator decisions, but if I were to guess: 1. glp is a privately owned blog site and not public traded. 2. Anyone, including ACs are allowed to post. The occasional vulgar might be deleted however. 3. GLP has a stated interest in the masthead. 4. glp could ban all ACs and require registration, and accept only people of certain persuasions. 5. All thing being equal glp is a pretty fair site.

Just my opinion from an outsider.

So you agree with censoring information? and secret ban lists? I got autobanned for linking to Cit*zensF*eeP*ess which I had no idea was on the secret ban list. They've managed to ban words with no notice that define running slowly...and common word for certain generations--and whatever the fuck else. It's so bad you never know when you'll hit post and poof or post, poof and autoban. It would be a hell of a lot less repressive if there were no secret lists of anything. Public--don't say this or boom--what's wrong with making it public?

CFP had the first information on the capitol hill press conference as it was going live. But GLP had to wait until it was banned everywhere to hear about it because you can't link to the conservative version of Drudge. As for--being private..if you mean a private "forum" that people have to pay not to be banned from (not really true, I've seen plenty of paying folks get the hammer over the years)then sure--a privately owned but corporate opinion manipulation laboratory is OK as long as it's not publicly traded--but what if the "parent" is publicly traded or--a private foundation? Then what? Isn't it opinion manipulation to keep people from sharing information across platforms? That's exactly what Twatter, FB et al are doing. If they banned ACs their laboratory would shrink by thousands, and their researchers wouldn't be able to start AC threads, but sign in and delete posts that go against the angle they're driving. That happened today. It's bizarre no one notices this.
