Anonymous Coward User ID: 78686355 08/03/2020 06:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are acres of those things that go unsold year after year. Ditto many other vehicles. I only see a need for a Van for a few reasons. As an option to owning a home; yes, if you only own the vehicle but not an actual address, sure. But not a mega bus. A modest Van is great for most people with access to a bathroom. The videos above of dudes with extreme camper Vans, that is the only reason I would see needing that, to go into the wilderness. Here's the thing. You can only go so far! You still need GAS! Even with solar you'll need gas in the wilderness. Where are you going to get it? I have no desire to haul 200 gallons of gas around. Not for me. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79178057 United States 08/03/2020 07:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The bottom line is housing is just to dam expensive in this country and wages have not kept up with it. My old man paid $30,000 for a house in 1975 making close to minimum wage. That house sells for $300,000 today with no improvements made to it. Wage purchasing power has dropped to 1980 levels with first world costs for everything. Foriegn investors, house flippers, state taxes, landlords wanting passive income, banker owned properties, homeowners wanting a piggy bank to cash out on and so on have driven the cost up. There are people in this country that want first world pricing for the things they sell and only want to pay third world labor costs. As they say, there is no free lunch. Cut off the bail outs to the rich so they will have to lower prices. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 79178057 United States 08/03/2020 07:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But dont worry. The elites and Wally world are tryin to put a stop to that too. Quoting: nythinker Just saw a report where Walmarts are starting to no longer allow RVs to park overnight in their lots. I'll find to story and post. "Walmart used to be a haven for RV parking, but more stores won't allow it- CNN" [link to amp.cnn.com (secure)] Yea, they are trying to take away the ability for people to break from the system. The prices per day to park are insane at some places, almost the same as rent for a month. You can travel 500 miles out in the middle of nowhere and park somewhere with no posting signs and some asshole in a truck with a gun shows up demanding you get off his land. You go deep in the woods and the state find you and remove you as well. There is hardly anywhere to run to. |

If they are open all facilities are closed as in no pools or very limited, no bath or laundry open, no activities, etc. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78424353 Campground nightly prices are going through the roof also. Availability at reasonably priced ones is impossible for months out too. Everything is being destroyed, this wonderful lifestyle too! Backpacking may be the only option left but they will find you then as well. |

People who would otherwise be happy, friendly and neighborly will turn into criminals and try to steal what you have. We have all read of the pending evictions, job losses, poverty, and everything associated with them... Where can you go that isn't already populated? Unfortunately, the pandemic has affected life everywhere. The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. |

Oh bullshit. I traveled/lived in an RV for 5 years straight with my girlfriend and dog, 30 foot class A, pulling a traiker doing arts and craft shows. It is a wonderful life and I would do it again in a heartbeat I am just starting to gather the gear to put together an off road expedition vehicle, as an everyday driver and capable of being off grid for 30 days |

User ID: 32317205 United States 08/03/2020 08:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just traded in my camper. Took me four days of research to find a camper. I ended up settling for a camper that had the right layout, but I couldn't get the brand I wanted. I was making calls up to 7 hours away, and it was the same story everywhere. Stock was down to around 5-10% everywhere. Most of the stock left was 5th wheels. Most of the buyers are new buyers with nothing to trade in. It's damn near impossible to get accessories. You can't even order half of the stuff, because the retailers don't know when stock will be in again. The problem is from three issues. Covid shut downs at the rv manufacturers and supply problems once they started back up. Top all of that off with insane demand. Some people have lots of time and camping is something recreational that they can still do. Then there's all of the city folks looking to possibly bug out. I researched stocks related to the industry. Everything was already riding high. I did manage to find something though. The company that owns Coleman, rubbermaid, ball (canning). Was still flat. They're next quarter should show record sales and profits. I'm looking to sell the stock after it gets the pop from this new situation. Newell Brands is the stock if anyone is interested. Good luck out there. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 9338962 United States 08/03/2020 09:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Full time RV living was a trend long before covid 19. In fact, I see slightly fewer RVs on the road this year than last year. Shut-downs have limited the number of camping sites available. Many full timers I know actually bought sticks and bricks homes since March. |
