Re: Larry Kudlow says the payroll tax deferral will give employed Americans 'a gigantic wage increase' Is he drunk again?
White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Sunday that the payroll tax deferment in President Trump's executive order will give millions of employed Americans "a gigantic wage increase."

"There are roughly 140 million people who are working. There are roughly 15 million or 16 million unemployed. The unemployed is too high. There's a lot of heartbreak there. That's why we want to help them with the unemployment assistance," Kudlow said on ABC's "This Week." "But the 140 million some odd, they're going to get a gigantic wage increase, probably $1,200 between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31. And, again, we'd like to — we will do everything we can to forgive those loans. So I think that's an incentive to work for those who are heroes during the pandemic, and also for the unemployed, it gives them an incentive to come back to work so we can offset some of the excesses of unemployment assistance."

Note: The payroll tax deferral puts 7% more in your paycheck and you still owe the tax. It's basically an interest free loan.

7% is a significant raise, even if it is for half a year. That's at least a couple of hundred extra dollars a month for full time lower wage workers.

If re-elected Trump promises to ELIMINATE it!

“If I’m victorious on November 3rd, I plan to forgive these taxes and make permanent cuts to the payroll tax,” Trump said at a news conference in Bedminster, N.J. “I’m going to make them all permanent.”

“In other words, I’ll extend beyond the end of the year and terminate the tax,” Trump later added. “And so we’ll see what happens.”
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77519450

He can't make anything permanent. Congress determines taxation. At best, Trump could choose to simply not enforce collection of the tax during his second term. The next President after Trump would not be obligated to continue non-enforcement.

President can't eliminate any type of tax, he can only defer it.

How can he eliminate tax when deficit is all the high and debt is accumulating in record pace?

Tax will increase under biden or trump in one way or another.

tax is one way to drain paper money from market to offset inflation done by central bank. e.g Japan.

If trump indeed want to lower tax in face of soaring deficit, debt rating will be cut and dollar could crash quicker. DXY down from 100 to 92 in recent weeks.

Re: Larry Kudlow says the payroll tax deferral will give employed Americans 'a gigantic wage increase' Is he drunk again?
...

7% is a significant raise, even if it is for half a year. That's at least a couple of hundred extra dollars a month for full time lower wage workers.

7% could hardly be considered "gigantic" and you still have to pay it back anyway.

Kudlow is either drunk as usual or drunk and lying.

It's 7.65%, and in my case it amounts to $10,740 per year or ~ $900 per month.

I'll be happy to take your 7.65% as well if you don't want it. Just let me know and we can arrange a scheduled ABA transfer from your account to mine.

Also, it'll wind up being tax-free, not deferred, because we all know Trump will win.

It's a WIN for the working public...LESS taxes.

If Demonrats were in control they would of raised our taxes 2-3 times in the last 3.5 years.

Absolute gibberish.

Brilliant comeback...lol

It's okay, no one ever expected much from you.

It means bigger paycheck because more take home pay, fewer deductions. It won’t have to be paid back.

My understanding was that Trump says it won't have to be paid back if he is elected as he plans on forgiving it. If he's not elected, it would presumably have to be paid back.

DXY down from 100 to 92 in recent weeks.

it's like saying china is paying the tariffs...

lol

no

United States importers are paying the tariffs and passing the cost along to YOU...

This people are fucking conmen

THIS

Trump continued to make that bullshit claim that China pays the import tariffs and his faithful tards just keep believing that lie.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78547930

Because they are idiots who don't understand how the world works.

The most they have ever imported is some crap off eBay that they pay no tax on.

I on the other hand import fucking CONTAINERS and know exactly who pays the tariffs, ME!

Guess what happens to the price of goods I retail out to the general public, THEY GO UP!
 Quoting: ^TrInItY^

Prices go up = people stop buying

Then one of two things happens:

1. Manufacturer lowers the cost to the distributor (you) OR

2. You lower your profit margin

That's the beauty of capitalism, if I don't agree with the price I can look elsewhere or just not buy.

People are addicted to buying things...they would be much better off if they saved/invested all of that disposable income instead of buying trinkets.

Lol

Anyway, I'm not counting on a payroll loan.

I have everything I need and planned my finances accordingly. I don't want to be bothered with this type of crap.

Not according to Kudlow.

“I think he meant the deferral would be forgiven,” the White House adviser responded. “I think he was saying that the savings on the deferral will be permanent. He did not mean that he was eliminating the Social Security tax.”

These guys need to get their stories and election promises straight.

Besides, the president has no authority under the Constitution to unilaterally eliminate any taxes or Social Security.

Smoke and mirrors.
