The Gulf of Mexico Loop is very warm and deep. 800 meters deep.

Cat 4's & 5's can intensify quickly.

Katrina intensified over this portion of the Gulf and TS Laura likely will pass over it as well. Plus TD 14 is on track to exit the Caribbean and enter the Gulf on this loop.
