He said these says not so much but I’m the good old days they had parties and live bands at most truck stops. They also had game rooms and pubs with motels attached to the Truckstop. He says these days truckin has a lot of rules and regulations and most truckers get harassed by weigh scale officers and regular people. I know karate so if some regular joe came up to me to start I would knock him down. My uncle dan said trucker ms used to help each other out. These days every man for themselves. He said the CB radio was popping all the time. There was even cb karaoke where drivers would sing over the cb radio. These days you can drive hundreds of miles without hearing one voice on the cb radio. So uncle dan says it was great back then but now it’s boring. What do you folks think? Is trucking a good careeer. I’m only 43 so I’m young and like make sure I can start a career that I will like until I retire 30 years from now. The pay is better than most Truck drivers ... paid by the mile ... while behind a load ... dead head miles ... on your expense ... People don't care how much You know ... till they know how much You care ... |

In the beginning, you get the worst routes that nobody wants. As you work up the company, in time, you could apply for better routes. Average pay is around $50K per year. UPS drivers make far less. Some companies give you an allotment for fuel and mileage. Others don't and you have to bid for the route. Company drivers usually drop off their load in another State and then return to their base location. They either get paid a salary or just for that one load delivery. So you're really not making money on the return trip... Typically owning your own rig, you bid for routes and you can make $500 - $1000 per load depending on where you're driving. What's good about being an independent truck driver is that you can pick up a load 1 way and then pick up a load for the return trip. So you can double your money. There are many kind of truck driving jobs with a wide payscale depending on where you are working. Appalachian coal truckers usually made $100 per day, $500 per week. Oklahoma Oil/Fuel truckers make lots more. You can even deliver milk, haul grain, or deliver cattle to the slaughter houses... One of my neighbors is a truck driver. He's gone about 4 days a week... |

The truckers used to go on the CB Calling channel and insult and give so much shit out, up and down the country. When they got boxed in at the traffic signals they would deny it. |

If you have any ties to anyone that you would really miss like a gf or wife it will ruin your relationship unless they were as fired up to live with you in the truck as you are to be there. If you have a house note to pay and other bills you can't stop paying on it is'nt worth it. starting out you may make 600 to maybe 1k a week gross. you will spend 100 to 200 a week on the road. I know people will say they can live off 50 a wk but thats complete bs unless you can eat can food. truck stops will eat your money up. you go in for fuel only and get out of there. they will run you like a dog. at first it's fun don't get me wrong, but once you see how much work you have to put in for the little bit of pay it's not worth it. You would need to stick with it for 3+ years for it to kind be worth it.... Thats a big kinda. like I said if you're single with no ties you can stack some money if you save and live small.. |
