Ok. This is how it works. Election day. You go to vote, get paper with names on it. You don’t know anybody on the list but you have to cast your vote. You just choose the random name that sounds better for you. Do you call it “elect”?

Specific useless group of people chose to be politicians. The only way for them to get this job (where they are doing nothing useful but getting much more money than 90% of population) is to get noticed.

It is like advertisement. Nobody cares about those products but when they are given a choice of buying from unknown set, people choose from those that are familiar or good looking (if other properties are similar).
