Shrinkflation is real. It is a combination of inflation and the fact that companies have to continue to turn out larger profits to keep shareholders happy.

I steal every chance I get from every store. Fuck em'.

From a 4oz can of tuna, you get about a sandwich and a half. We got More than three sandwiches Out of that 7 oz can. The corporations are ripping us off.
 Quoting: Off Switch

My last experience with a tuna fish sandwich didn't turn out so good. My landlord gave me one and I got violently ill. I think she cleaned her fridge out. hf

I recently bought and drank a can of Mike's hard lemonade which I never had before. It tasted kind of funky but at the time I figured that's just how the product tastes.

After I finished it, I looked at the bottom of the can to find a 2004 expiration date on it.

Fortunately, I had no side effects whatsoever.

Re: I found a 10 year old 7 ounce can of tuna in the back of our pantry
It’s was a 7 ounce can. I compared it to a new can of tuna. Cans of tuna now are only 4 ounces and cost the same or more. That is a 40% reduction in product.

The 10 year-old can was undamaged and not bulging, so I made tuna salad out of it. It had a bit of a metallic taste, but other than that is was fine.

Does anyone else have Examples of food shrinkage?

While food prices have doubled and sometimes even quadrupled in the last 10 years, pay scales have not.

Re: I found a 10 year old 7 ounce can of tuna in the back of our pantry
After I stopped eating any and all fast food due to the pandemic in March, shortly before then I noticed several things got smaller:

1. Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburgers at Jack In the Box had a definite size decrease.
2. Large Fries were cut down to medium-size fries (you would have to buy two medium fries to equal the original size large fries you could get at Jack In the Box).
3. Even cheeseburgers and other menu items at Jack In the Box got smaller.
3. Large Fries at McDonalds actually shrunk in size.
4. Same thing with sausage mcmuffins at McDonalds.
5. I also noticed the double whoppers at Burger King got smaller as well. I tried one for the first time in a few years at least 1 year before the pandemic, and even they had gotten smaller.

But things are most definitely not the same size they were just 2-3 years ago.

wtf are you people yapping about?

y'all should've drained the tuna juice and weighed it.

that 4oz tuna can probably had less than 2oz of fish in it.

the japanese not too long ago was above eating tuna, they treated it as low class food for the very poor.

I dont think it is the corporations but the fed printing money for the rich investors in the markets. Its driving inflation through the roof.

There are generic versions that are only a few cents cheaper.

When a company fails to innovate, acquire new sales, etc things that increase sales, they will cannibalize their own product and customers through things like shrinkflation or substituting ingredients, etc anything to get the costs down so they can report profit to shareholders.

This is what happens when capitalism fails.

I have noticed the weight and volume of foods go down as the price stays the same or increases, over the years...

I made a tuna helper once that called for 5.5oz cans, when all I could find were 4.5oz, but I usually triple the amount anyway to achieve a better protein to calorie ratio...

Pre-Fuku tuna?

Nice...
 Quoting: BFD

The whole fukushima contamination of fish thing kept me away from them for few years, but I love fish too much. My body literally starts falling apart without it (skin, vision, joints, blood pressure) so I bit the bullet. Fuck it!
 Quoting: MongoEternal

I never liked fish much... fresh water perch fresh caught was ok.. white tuna only... I like lobster .. shrimp.. not scallops..

I lost for tuna after I quit meat for several reasons.. which was at least 20 years ago now.

fake meat is getting decent tasting but I am so used to no making things with meat anymore... that I don't use much of that.

I use fish oil caps for the good fats in meat for a long time not... including regular and high DHA ones...

Contains nitrites like most canned meats damaging for liver.

I have a food bank and right now the building it was in is shut to fake covid. So I have much of it stored in my house including various canned meats plus tuna. the only canned meat with nitrites is spam and canned ham.

the beef, chicken and chili with beef do not.

At least you can get six 12oz cans of canned chicken breast for $10 at Sam's/Costco. Cheaper and tastes better. Have lots of it stored as preps.

They even messed with the recipe of Haagen Dasz to still keep the price point, and the reduced it to 14 ounce instead of a pint. Sucks now.

Publix still makes real full fat ice cream, on sale often...2 half-gallons for $6. Real 64 ounce half gallons...

That was brave of you! I would have tossed it out of paranoia, but I will say that tuna doesn’t seem to taste nearly as delicious as it did when I was a kid! I know you can still get it packed in oil (which I think tastes the best), but it still isn’t the same!

I like it enough to eat it anyway, but I miss the tuna of “the old days”!
