American cyclist suspended by team after pro-Trump comments

Simmons was suspended following his response to a post from cycling journalist and commentator José Been about the upcoming US election, in which she asked supporters of Donald Trump to stop following her on Twitter. The American responded by writing “bye,” followed by an emoji of a hand with black skin tone waving.

The use of a black emoji by a white person online has been repeatedly highlighted as racist, and the term “digital blackface” has been coined to describe its usage.

By the way...Simmons is white and the journalist, Jose Been (female) is white! Now they're saying he's racist because the emoji hand waving "Bye" was dark.

The furore is not about Quinn Simmons political believes. He used a black hand to wave at Jose Been on Twitter. That was 100% racist. Look up blackface, Jeremy, that is what it was. A deep seated form of racist oppression and a tactic adopted by extreme right wing racist groups.

I use yellow so it can’t be judged as it was the first one and we were all the same. I feel using colored hands could easily be taken racist. Using white hands by a white like myself could be viewed as me pushing white power or some dumb shit
