Re: Christmas Giveaway Thread for those in need 2020. It's happening.. again! (Final Update status on P.31)
Latest Update:

Another 4 requests filled. We are now at around 125 requests filled, including 11 Amazon orders. Still waiting for three email replies on Amazon requests:

Kenny B. (general request)
Bright Side (request for skateboard kid and another kid)
Christy P. (request about Lego and paintball)

If you read this, please check your emails, so we can see what still can be done. I know that Amazon delivery times will also get extended in the coming days. Maybe we can still do something, but we need to act fast.

All in all still room for one or two moar. And then we really need to close this GiveAway. It truly has been a blast, thanks to all of you. As exhausting as it was, it also gave tremendous energy. What a blessing to do this.

For who likes numbers, I just checked and besides all the posts here, there were:

- about 250 exchanges in email
- 115 PayPal transactions
- 11 Amazon orders, split across several sub orders.

All in all, from the funds alone, brought together through so many beautiful souls, with:

- an average of $50 per request
- we sent out close to $6,500 on PayPal
- we sent out close to $ 900 in gifts on Amazon

to those who could use it most. And that is even excluding all the beautiful gestures that the Angel Elves in this thread made directly to people in need.

- All of the above has been done in around 62 hours.

I would say that is quite an achievement and deserves a big APPLAUSE to everyone involved, in whatever form you contributed. It shows that when push comes to shove, even on a quite 'energetic' forum like GLP we as a community can get together to spread some hope, encouragement and light in darker times. And that to me has always been the ultimate goal of this Christmas GiveAway.

Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone!!

And even though we are really close to the GiveAway ending, it doesn't mean this thread has to end. So feel free to continue posting and continue to create and keep the Christmas spirit going.

And we also will see about some last minute requests, till we are really done.

Much love, Merry Christmas and God Bless all of you! hf

Happy update time!!!! We took the road trip to meet Toledo Chris and his roommate! 2 very nice young men that are having a bit of hard luck, like so many this year. We had a nice little visit and will stay in touch. I'm looking forward to it!

While I'm here, thanks everyone for the mail prayers! I felt silly about it this morning, but maybe it'll work for everyone else expecting mail, too. We had a bill in the mail when we got home from out of state. First real mail in over a week! They could've kept that one!! LoL

All in all, a VERY good day!

I know, right!?! It was even snowing and raining when we drove out there! So much excitement in one day! You think I've been at home too long!?!

About the bill, if everyone gets one REAL piece of mail, maybe the clog in the drain will break and it'll all get delivered in time. Yeah I know, but it's a fun, little world for a second! LOL

Lol. We are planning to take a drive somewhere next week for our anniversary. Just to a state park or something if the weather is good. I'm more excited about that than last year when we took the train to NYC! Lol, it's been a long year.

Glad your road trip was fun and successful. Good job! hf

I cannot seem to get enough extra food together to end the problem, so need food of an extra amount to stop this starvation trip I seem to be on. I feel I will be safe if I can get back 20 lbs. of the 119 which suddenly vanished, much to my surprise and shock. I am 5 feet 6 at 100 [bs, and weak as a kitten. and hungry as a horse.
We were given 2 boxes of our senior meals at TanksGiving
week delivery because there would be no delivery the following week. I was so hungry I ate two of the little tv dinners a day and got 15 lbs to stay on my bones, but the following week I lost all of that and back to weak and hungry again.

Do you have access to a Walmart for grocery pickup or delivery? I can offer you a Walmart e-gift card to be delivered today. I would need your email address. I'm sorry that I can't send money. :)

That's the funny part! It really wasn't much of a road trip. Our mall has lost all but 1 anchor store, so if you want/need to shop, you drive out to Toledo or the other way towards Cleveland. Either way, it's just over an hour one way. We drove farther all the time in Texas!

BUT.....we got OUT of the house for awhile!

I've read all 29 pages of this thread, in tears, and I am so thankful for Mezzo and each and everyone of you! Every post on every page touched my heart deeply.

Thank you for everyone who was kind enough to give and donate to others, with no questions asked.

Thank you for everyone who put their pride aside, and had the courage to request help to make the holidays special for their friends and families. I know it took alot for some of you to even THINK about asking for help.

And thank you to GLP for allowing us to all come together in a way such as this. It means alot to see the Spirit of giving at work, especially during these times.

I pray Christmas blessings over every one who posted on this thread, and all of GLP. Let us be reminded this Christmas season that we should love and care for one another always. And be grateful for what we can all share here at GLP. It is truly a miracle that this forum, known by few compared to other places, was such a bright spark of joy for so many.

Love yall and God bless

i have wanted to comment on the goings on in this thread, SweetB put into words so perfectly what i, and i am sure, many others feel.

the spirit of giving and lending a helping hand to our neighbors, here or across the waters, has been sorely lacking in this chaos we have been swamped with.

much credit also goes to the brave ones who by stepping forward & asking, allowed this all to happen.

BIG accolades to InterMezzo for starting this, selfless labor of many hours and his added abundance of charm & grace. Made this the best Christmas Blessings for the givers and the receivers.

May the Christmas Spirit and Blessings live on

No money to spare but a couple of full membership upgrades and prayers when asked for.

Sometimes it is hard to sit back and not be able to help others in need.

Sometimes it is hard to put aside pessimism that the people are really in need.

Sometimes it is hard to have trust in others.

Sometimes it is easier to just believe in the goodness of people, to remember there really are good souls out there and to remember most of all God ways are not always the way WE would have done it or seen it happen.

It's also hard to ask for help when you need it, especially emotionally. For those struggling at this time of year - reach out to any one of us and we will offer a shoulder, a prayer and just chatting.

Thank you for sharing that, Simple! :)

I grew up playing piano, too, TB. I don't think I had your talent, though. Dance was my favorite. It came easier to me. Although I love music, too! My dad can play anything. My little niece is learning the cello, which is awesome. :)

It really is. The sad part is, I can't play anymore. My hands hurt after just a little bit. I was going to buy an electronic piano, but then the lockdowns hit and I won't buy one without trying it out first. If I could find one like the old Yamaha Clavinova (sp?) I tried years ago in Holland, I'd be a happy camper. Not too technical and sounds enough like a real piano....perfection for me, at least I hope so. I used to do so many things with my hands, I hope I haven't totally worn them out.

I don't think we've been introduced yet, CAPMAN, but I enjoy your posts all the time. Sorry about the box. The mail is still screwed up! Do people still eat chicklets?

THANK YOU FOR THE 'OBSERVATIONS'. IT'S NICE TO GET NOTICED.
NOT SURE WHAT U MEAN ABOUT THE BOX AND THE MAIL. I RECALL YOUR AVATAR NAME. CHICKLETS NO LONGER EXIST DUE TO MY CLASS
ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM..... I HAD TO GO TO RE-HAB FOR THEM IN '73, '77, '79, '81 AND '83 WHEN I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL.

You mentioned the box of chicklets and the only way I know to get you one would be to mail it.

I see I'm a couple of years older than you. I wondered where that gum went! LOL

Good luck with whatever your mission is! Merry Christmas!

Hi, my old friend! You know I was offline for quite awhile. I'm still catching up on news that everyone else knows. A HUGE hug sent your way.

I'm a ton closer to you now than I was before. If everyone ever gets healthy enough or I find myself in your town, I'll look you up. It could happen now. LOL I was on the turnpike today and thought of you! Holler at me if you find yourself in Ohio! hugs
