What cloud are you living on?

It takes years to develop an oil drilling site. Main uses are for transportation. You are right it has other uses but we’re also slowly moving away from using it in those areas as well (plastics). In the grand scheme of things latching on to an oil reserve in aims of self sustainability will provide benefits in the short term. In the long run though real sustainable tech will prove more cost effective and the results from not investing in newer technologies will prove more detrimental.

Sorry for double posts. In terms of economics all of the existing oil prices will drop severely in order to compete. There will be an abundance of extra oil and prices will go down. Your right there is a bit of market manipulation but when it comes to demand dropping that significantly there’s nothing they can do.

Moot point. Even if you consider it 100% free with the years to develop the site and oil prices already dropping its a better investment to boost infrastructure and develop new technologies.
