Farmers sold their crop before they planted. Farmers are not hurt distributors, probably. Important factor is the food is staying here, even if it cuts into distributors profit. Farmers will go bankrupt if there is a limitation on export. Food prices will go up in the U.S as big farms exit the market. Keep in mind, commodities have built in waste (inefficiencies) that favor larger operation in order to keep prices low. Small farms have higher cost per certain quantities of commodities. So big farms are going to just not plant lol. I go back to the point crops are sold before they are planted demand is not changing only the distribution farmers will feel nothing they grow then harvest what happens next is not their concern Commodities are sold at market prices since there is no competitive advantage to beans from Mexico or beans from Wisconsin. Beans is beans. It is the nature of commodites. If big farmers exit the market, small farms cannot compete imports from other countries. Either way, the prices go up either through tariff or limitation on local production. |

Or at minimum a gov agency based on what the goods are. In fact only Fortune 500 companies and up for the most part handle there own export import of material. So much legal red tape to go through. Typically all this red tape can be handled by a licensed importer exporter company. You all know that farmers don’t sell direct to China right? Unless your the Fortune 500 owned farm. Most sell to co-ops Most sell to purchasing firms Most sell to gov groups Most sell to the market (example : agricultural commodities company) Also almost all farmers do sell in the futures market. Sold product before grown. It’s called farm gambling. So if China purchased futures and didn’t take ownership then you have a problem. If China isn’t paying for the product then it’s sitting in containers. But guess what someone got payed. Farmer most likely still got payed but the middle man got shafted. Next time around the farmer won’t get payed cause the middle man isn’t buying There is almost no direct sell to anyone in China at all. In fact most exportation from US to China are done through import and export companies separate of the the actual companies selling and purchasing. |

Shipping carriers rejected U.S. agricultural export containers worth hundreds of millions of dollars during October and November, instead sending empty containers back to China to be filled with more profitable Chinese exports. The refusals come during the peak season for agriculture exports. While U.S. agricultural exports run continuously for 12 months, the months of November through March are critical. [link to www.cnbc.com (secure)] This has nothing to do with Trumps Tariffs,,, Agriculture is shipped on container ships using unique containers for AG and the ones used to ship products in, the TEUs are in short supply in China and are needed to ship goods. China is willing to pay the shippers more for the empties to be delivered to them than the farmers are willing to pay to ship their full containers of food to china. Its not china making all the calls. If the shippers were paid more by the farmers to ship then the food would be shipped. They have no idea that USA's economy is highly INFLATED, it is not as big as GDP figures make it seem. Are Western countries wealthy ? Not really: * They can not feed themselves * They must import raw materials from POC countries for their industries * In the meantime, POC countries produce everything Western countries produce, that means, Western countries are fked if they have no access to POC markets Western countries' only "wealth" are their currencies or their control over the global financial system, sadly, they are about to lose that control.
