Re: "For all intensive purposes" and other annoying malapropisms
You see, the appropriate phrase is 'for all intents and purposes.' I surmise that dumb people try to appear educated, and only undermine their big word nolledge through the use of a malapropism. These are the same cats that blurt fucked up shit like "irregardless" and "supposably." When you call them on it, they will insist that "it's a word; it's in the dictionary." Yeah, whatever. Idiot.

These idiots may tell you about their 'Sig Sawyer' firearm. I ask them: what do you call that German fermented cabbage that goes on a Reuben Sandwich? No one has ever called it Sawyer Kraut, so how is the firearm called Sawyer? SAUER in both cases. Smith and Weston? Who the fuck is Weston? There is NO paint manufacturer called Sherman Williams, and even if there were, he sure as fuck did not manufacture MASONARY paint. It's masonry, goddamnit.

Just remember Yogi Berra's sage advice: When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I didn't think that it required any explanation, but did you not think that misspelling was intentional? Kudos for paying attention!

The ads on Craig's list are full of this. I think they are basically non-readers and go by what they think they heard.
My biggest gripe is people who say "our" like it was spelled "are". Our, of course, rhymes with Sauer and not Bar.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

Lately I've been annoyed by the claims of Texas succeeding from the Union. Succession is just not a great idea. However, if they did succeed, I would consider moving there.

I also see far too much of marshall law, although that may be someone's GLP version of martial law in the same way we use brian, it's a tarp, and moran. Don't axe me why....

Irregardless of what you say, I think your just going rouge over these supposively incorrect phrases. For all intensive purposes its a mute point anyway. You should of focused on more important things. Case and point, you could nip the problem in the butt by just not caring so much. Its not of the upmost importants.

Or just finish the headline

"and other annoying malapropisms"

or consult a dictionary.

I always thought the phrase "bald faced liar" arose from the belief that women and young boys were more likely to tell fibs.

Bold faced doesn't make particular sense to me.

people obsessed with that kind of crap make life tedious and annoying. i dont care how you say it. they arent interested in what you are saying so much as analyzing how you said it or your grammar and all this stupid crap.

none of us have proper english. we all speak some butchered kind of american mishmash of a garbage language combined with internet memes and covidspeak.

we are all actual morons now trying to cling to some objective standards so we can be snarky and run around telling everyone I TOLD YOU SO SEE IM A BIG SMARTY HEEHEE

This is the educational system today. If they can't find Lebanon on a map do not expect them to use proper English.

Just look at texting shorthand instead of "Oh you too?" it's "O U2?"

Punctuation was always my weakness but there is nothing worse than common spelling errors, words used out of context, or just plain laziness.

Re: "For all intensive purposes" and other annoying malapropisms
one of my faves was always "fast approaching"

as in "Christmas is fast-approaching..."

or "April 15 is fast-approaching..."

of course, those days are approaching as fast as any other future event with the normal passage of time

I finally gave up and decided that it's just an idiom for "drawing near" and doesn't translate literally

that's right: the first day of spring is literally fast-approaching
