Anonymous Coward User ID: 71031895 United States 02/28/2021 11:30 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes it was way colder than normal, but all this sh*t in the news is overblown hype. In DFW anyway. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77902202 I talked to a former coworker in Texas (DFW), I left there Dec 2019. He never lost electricity. None of my former coworkers ever lost electricity other than one of them who lost electricity for 9 hours (1 out of 8). His water froze but no busted pipes and his bathroom water was unaffected, only the kitchen. The office in north Dallas never lost electricity. There have been no noticeable food shortages. how many of them have had trees thru their roofs n no water since the storm happened.Dallas is far from the only city in Texas that was affected.theres smaller towns. And over 55 ppls froze to death. |

The office in north Dallas never lost electricity. There have been no noticeable food shortages. there were some neighborhoods around critical infrastructure like police stations, hospitals, etc. if you were sitting on legs of the grid to those infrastructure, you never lost power. however, most of dallas lost power in some form or fashion. there were some neighborhoods that lost power for up to 2 days, no power at all. while my neighborhood, the longest stretch was around 8 hours. other than that 8 hours, we had 30 minutes of power every 2-3 hours. temps in my house constantly were below 60 degrees because 30 minutes of power every 3 hours cannot heat up a home. you just scrambled to make hot food when you had power. the stores around me were fine. some things were in short supply or gone (like bread) but nobody was starving. gas stations were hit or miss. most of them shut down some or all of their pumps, but you could find gas if you were willing to drive around. most people in dfw are not prepared for no power for days. that's why it was so bad. we aren't prepared for this kind of cold in texas like the people further up north. i was better off than most since i prep but some of my friends literally ate cold food for 2 days in the dark. i drove to one of my friends to give him my camping butane grill - he has young children. that was the first hot food they ate in 2 days since his neighborhood was one of the ones with no power for 3 days straight. |

SHIT WAS FUCKED Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78986815 personally i think DFW got it better than cities further south like austin, houston. the reason is that DFW got all snow. it was literally just powder. no ice at all. in austin and houston, it was a freezing mix or sleet and snow, that made travel impossible. there was very little ice on the roads in DFW. i was driving on day 1 of the storm to the store. it was fine if you have any experience driving in snow. but my friends in austin in houston could not drive anywhere because it was literally 4" sheet of ice on the roads. cars in texas arent prepared for that, even trucks with 4x4. |

However, I know a lot of people who did experience these things. That said, I do think the media did go overboard with the situation. Most of us have moved on from the experience. We are Texans, it’s what we do. Most of us don’t like handouts so we help one another. |

Ted Cruz needs to resign, for abandoning his fellow Texans in their time of need He is our representative to federal government, not state government He flew his daughters to Mexico and returned the next morning He was in touch with his office the whole time. Completely manufactured BS (and I don't even like him) |

I’m north of Dallas by 20 miles. Good for them. I’ve lost over 20 50 year old trees. Filled two 30 gallon bags with all the dead critters. Gas pumps froze so no generators after second day. The best part, we didn’t lose or have power. They turned it on for 45 minutes every 2 hours for 72 straight hours. Personally, I enjoyed the down time to read. But I’m a glper and am a prepper. Still doesn’t help much with worry when knowing everyone else was suffering. It was a big deal as the SUBTROPICS aren’t exactly known for being below freezing 5 straight days. Now it’s 70 and raining with a cold front of 50 moving in. Btw, the coldest day on average in Dallas happens mid January. That average lowest cold is 55 degrees. There is no nobility in being superior to your fellow man. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self. ~ Ernest Hemingway |
