for newbies who want a houseplant that requires no care, whatever object that can hold water, grow POTHOS.

https://imgur.com/a/MYsMMIk

my statuette here is hollow because it was supposed to be some kind of planter (with no drainage hole) so i just grow water plants instead of boring a hole.
all the pothos need is water and some light.
that is a west facing window.

in my kitchen is a night blooming CEREUS...Queen of the Night.
https://imgur.com/a/HzGKAKB

this pot was made from another long piece that shot out, covered with roots the entire way, just like this one:
https://imgur.com/a/XkcMmxR

i take that long piece, cut it into whatever length i desire shove it down into the soil, walk away and boom it just grows.
https://imgur.com/a/L5l25fB

my outside momma plant that ive been taking cuttings from for over a decade now...
lizard on far left (its where i always put any lizards i rescue from the cats):

https://imgur.com/a/sMReD5N

these plants are so easy to grow...any piece of leaf or stem you shove down into the soil will absolutely root.
kind of a monster if not kept cut back.

it will flower if the moths can get to it.

edit to add shoving the cuttings into the soil.no need for any rooting hormones, just soil and water.

I lightly tilled, then spread and raked humus into the south garden bed. I next need to set up a drip irrigation system for broccoli and onions.

Just getting back from a northbound run.

I'm happy to see that all four hops plants seem to be stabilizing on their fourth day planted.

No shock appears to be happening. They say you don't want to soak these native New Mexican hops. They're a little breed than European hops and like it relatively dry. So I'm just letting the olla slowly water the roots and let them get established before the monsoon season starts.

A small but solid beginning.

Many of you will still be in spring cool season up north.

For us down here in almanac zone 14 desert southwest, we're getting close to the cusp of our summer heat. By May 15, we'll be hitting 100F easily.

The spinach and acelgas will be coming out tomorrow therefore. Will leave a few at the sides for seed. But as this is the last week of April and still waxing moon, the rest of this week will be dedicated to getting in the summer warm season plot.

I'm also thinking it's time to go ahead and harvest the I'itoi onions and get them ready for replanting at Lammastide.

In short, most of the cool season stuff is getting harvested tomorrow.

Re: Gardening Journal - Post your gardening updates here

Ok, I'm finally getting my Zadokite/Enochian Python3 code perfected for the solar planting calendar. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find out how the Essenes and Sadducee were keeping an accurate 364 day solar calendar as described in the Book of Enoch and Jubilees without the use of 0.

And it all came to me at last in one flash of serendipity -- you simply start counting Primember (the 1st month) as day 2. It's that simple. You don't need to use a day 0 at all, all you need to do is skip counting day 1 in the 1st month and you'll always stay on track since days are counted at sunset when they are completed and not at there beginning.

That is astonishingly simple and it boggles my mind that such a simple answer could always work, but it does.

You can keep a 364 day solar calendar that doesn't drift if you will just skip counting the 1st day of the 1st month as day 1 and number it as day 2. You don't need 0 or any of that. Just count 364 days. It's that mindnumbingly simple. And after all that effort, it finally dawned on me.

now I have my Zadokite/Enochian planting calendar in shape and it's showing correct Julian dates for years earlier than 1583 and the Gregorian dates for years after 1582. So, I think it's finally at a place where it's functional for not only today, but historical research.

It shows the evening of Passover in AD 32 as beginning that Friday evening of April 28/Nisan/Primember 14 and that Sunday April 30 would have been the resurrection of Christ.

I cannot believe the answer is so simple, but that is how the Essenes and Sadducees were keeping an accurate 364 day solar calendar without the use of 0.

The first day of the 12th month (Duodecember) always begins the evening of the observed solar equilux on the sundial, which at Jerusalem longitude is March 16, the evening after the Ides of March in the Julian calendar. If you consistently start the 12th on the observed equilux as described in the Book of Enoch, your 364 day solar calendar will always stay on track. It's that simple. And, amazingly, it actually works. It works so well, in fact, you can even code it for a computer.

I'itoi bunching onions harvested. I think only about 12 or so came in that bulb package they sent from Native Seed Search. Well, suffice it to say I have far more than 12 now.

These performed like champions over winter. They really paid for their ground space.

Getting the greens in the dehydrator and I'll save back about 12 bulbs to replant at Lammas.

This is truly the onion built for the southwest. They do what they say on the tin.

Getting these beds cleared today and discovered a little Catnip getting started.

Well, it can just be a Catnip, then, right there. It's a good little place for it by the pots.

You don't need much, because like everything else in the mint family, it tends to spread rapidly.

I just ordered a small 15A electric wood chipper for $100. It has reversible, replaceable blades that can be sharpened. It has decent reviews. I'm doing lots of trimming, and the refuse is building up. I will also try to chip dry palm fronds.

Those are beautiful rob!

I am hoping to grow some black sunflowers this year. But it snowed last night (all melted this morning) so it's a little too cold to plant still.

4-28-23 - Essene/Zadokite/Enochian solar passover and resurrection weekend begins

Getting the rest of the squares cleaned and ready for planting. Got the last 4 big ollas installed.

I'm going to try to plant in concentric circles this year because I think I'll get a more even water distribution from the ollas if I surround them instead of working with traditional square planting.

Square planting is good in many instances, but I think with ollas, circular planting might be more in order.

I got my little compass out to help me make sure I'm planting the circles evenly.

I have no idea if this will work or not. Just giving it a whirl to see.

The olla drippers seem to be functioning, so I'm just letting those fill up while I get seeds ready.

It's looking like it might rain.

It is Enochian solar passover eve and the eeds are in the ground.

Will be doing monsoon three sisters planting at Enochian solar Pentecost on June 20.

We'll see how this circular system works this year. Hopefully, it will function as intended.

A simple planting this time of Horehound, Zaatar (Biblical hyssop), Indian Tobacco (nicotiana quadravalvis (not trifolium)), Yaqui Basil, tall bonset, late bonset, pequin peppers, Coriander, and Cummin. I already have Punta Banda tomatoes coming up in the south square. I wasn't going to do tomatoes this year, but I think they may do better over there. Got em planted at lunar passover, so that should help.

I'm keeping it simple this year because I want a lot of stock of each of these medicinals. I drank every bit of my Yaqui Basil tea this winter, so I'm planting more than last time.

Getting toward sunset. Sol in Issachar/Aries conjunct Mercury retrograde. Mercury will be retrograde till May 14, and during this spring retrograde is a really good time to get the the warm season garden in the ground. Luna 1st quarter complete and waxing toward Full Flower.

Genesis 49

14Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying down between the sheepfolds:
15He saw a resting place that was good,
And a land that was pleasant;
He bowed his shoulder to bear,
And became driver of the plow.

4-29-23 Essene solar Holy Saturday

And with that, all the ollas are now installed. Didn't know if this one in the urn would drip very well, so I put a 1gph dropper in it and it's doing fine even going uphill.

I now have 24 ollas and that should cover all bases in the garden and the planters.

Now I can run everything on one faucet garden timer when I'm out and I'll lose 0% water from wind. This system should be some 70% more water efficient than conventional sprayers. I have no above-ground watering now.

Getting some Mexican Marigold seeds planted while I'm out here.

4-30-23 Resurrection Day - Walpurgisnacht/May Day Meditation

Doing a bit of chanting this noon hour to celebrate Christ's resurrection on April 30, AD 32. A bit of reflection on planting and spring new life. A bit of banishing the dark and bringing in the light. I had hoped I would get some time to do some spring planting chant this weekend, and fortunately, I didn't have any loads scheduled. So, I'm quite happy about that. :-)

Luna has come out of Lilith/Black Moon/Apogee phase as of April 30 resurrection day and now is waxing bright. She was conjunct Lilith on April 28 Friday, the day of the solar Passion of Christ this year. Now is an opportune time to plant this week especially with Mercury currently retrograde.

The H-brews and Arabs used to divide the month into 10 phases of 3 days each. Jesus likens these 10 lunar phases to 10 silver denarii. There Arabic names are 1) Ghurear 'the bright ones', 2) Nufal 'the overlapping nights' 3) Tusa 'the nine', 4) Ushar 'the ten', 5) Ajjam al-lajali l-bibi 'days of the white nights, 6) Dura 'white nights with black heads' 7) Zulam 'dark nights', 8) Hanadis 'very dark nights' 9) Mihaq 'extiguishment', 10) Ad-da'-daja 'Dark Moon'.

Luke 15 - The Parable of the Lost Silver Coin

8Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

5-1-23 May Summer 1st week of classical Summer begins

A brown desert heron decided to fly on in this weekend. Warm season begins and they're right on time.

The ancient Greeks held the sighting of herons to pretend good fortune and a good growing season because water must be abundant that year.

Maybe it really it really is the year of the black water rabbit.

Basil writes in 8th homily Of Hexaemeron, section 2:

"But, it will be said, how is it that some birds, like swallows and herons, are migratory, if not to find a better climate? But first, what is there surprising, if these animals should have received the order to change their abode at certain periods, just as the fish are commanded to go up the rivers, so as by their periodical visits to show forth the wisdom of their Creator, and render manifold services to mankind? How many cities, placed on rivers’ banks, owe their foundation to the migration of fish!"

5-1-23 Planting and Piper season is here

Isaiah 30

23Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be plump and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures. 24The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and fan. 25And there shall be upon every high mountain, and upon every high hill, rivers and streams of waters in the day of a great slaughter, when all the towers fall.

26Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

27Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

28And his breath, as an overflowing stream, shall reach to the midst of the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity: and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, causing them to err.

29Yet ye shall have a song, as in the night when a sacred festival is kept; and gladness of heart, as when the piper ascendeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel.

30And the LORD shall cause his shimmering voice to be heard, and shall show forth the shaking down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

31For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with the rod.

32And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall lay into them, it shall come with drums and sistrums, and in thunderous battle will he wage war against them.

i harvested four plants of DILL about a foot high..cut them right down leaving a good inch or so and they are growing back nicely.
https://imgur.com/a/oDygqlr

we made little thin bundles which are hanging in a closet to dry.
i can then put the dry dill into small jars.

later on i will let them go to seed although im not growing any cucumbers i will do so next year.
they apparently grow well together and you harvest them at the same time.
for pickling you have to use the SEEDS so it works out.

ive got more sprouted to plant somewhere..idk where but im sure ill find a place or two.
i just LOVE this plant.

Sweet potatoes are easy to grow. They sprout like Irish potatoes and are easy to start from last years crop. They can be planted in containers or beds or grown in hills in the garden.

Making hills is labor intensive, but for the food value and amount of return on the harvest it is worth the effort. Work up the soil when it can be broken very fine. They need loose soil to grow and do not like lumps or clods. I run a tiller over where I am to plant and then shovel up the loose dirt into hills. I then plant the potato starts in the hills. They will have to be weeded twice until they begin to spread. Once they spread out and vine they will choke out any weeds.
