Re: HALP! I just rescued a baby bird fallen from a tree and IDK what to do!!!
didn't have time to read every post

but from what I remember a vet telling my mother once when she ended up with some baby birds:

the vet said to not try to give them water or food without having any experience because you could drown them, the mother bird goes deep down into their throats with the food and if you don't get past the lungs they will suffocate

my mom took them to the vet
Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads.

Thoughts create, mind them well.

It probably needs to eat bugs. We have insectivore rearing mix here and mix it with ground beef.use tweezers to shove pieces down its gaping face hole

he was making cute little noises when he wakes up but he's not making them now. He keeps moving so much, I kept his box on the ground in case he escaped I didn't want him to fall far and I put a pillow under it so it would be soft too. But he stayed inside, he just rolls around a lot.

lol, we got plenty of those!

smashed boiled egg with a little water worked perfectly! Thanks again BBQ Boy!

This is so good to know, it's scary not being prepared but this time of year we find little babies out of the nest all the time.

Just need some eggs, heating pad and a wildlife center close by. Everyone should find where their center is and be prepared!

If you touch it or bring it home it will most likely die.

If you can restore it to it's best without touching it with your hands and the mother does not reject it, maybe it'll live.

Otherwise it's going to die.

Trees were too tall to see a nest and he was on a piece of bubble wrap when my boy found him in his friends backyard. The little boys adoptive mom is 85 and she may have put him there not knowing what to do.

It's too high, my little boy found it with his friend in the back yard and he started crying saying he doesn't want it to die.

it will not work, the others will reject him. give him proteins, bugs, flies, keep him warm and touch him a lot, hopefully he will survive

Re: HALP! I just rescued a baby bird fallen from a tree and IDK what to do!!!
Personally I'd take it outside and whack it over the head.

The likelihood a thing that young surviving is low, without specialist knowledge of the diet (and of course the species).

I would guess a mixture of caterpillars, worms and grubs. Meal worms need their head squishing before feeding. But these things need variation in their diet. Do not constantly feed it the same thing over and over.

I watched a nature program that was studying a nesting bird. They had nest cameras set up everywhere. One of the parent bird died, the crew knew the young were unlikely to survive with only one provider. To prevent a wasted show, they provided easy access to various food (worms etc.) They were surprised how little the single parent bird took advantage of the easy access meals. They concluded that the bird better understood natural dietary needs of it's young and the small amount of free stuff was used to sustain itself.

Young birds diets alter as their body develops into a fledglings - be warned.

A linen lined cup or bowl so the little tyke can stay upright with it's legs under it is needed . Feed it with a flat narrow thin spoon like object . I always carve my own .

Keep it warm . over feeding is no good either . They are so vulnerable at that age . Pablum mashed boiled egg yoke is good .

Keep it clean .

Yeah, i guess he could have died.

Oh my got! I could have kept him, he's a sparrow, invasive species. But I don't think the center will euthanize him, they only do that to a mute swan. I read but I'm going to call to make sure.

Love them all , thank you for caring and taking the time to help another one hit the air . Every one of them is a gift from god .

Re: HALP! I just rescued a baby bird fallen from a tree and IDK what to do!!!
They call them an invasive species yet I have a different view of them . Habitat loss has cost the native stocks much more then the sparrows have .

With the loss of species to habitat destruction the available forage for the remaining stocks such as raptors falcons owls etc was so drastically reduced they to were in grave danger of extinction .

The English sparrow filled that void very well and now supplies much of the forage the remaining avian species need to simply exist . A trade off of sorts .

They serve a vital purpose here now and if they were lost we would see a rapid collapse of what is left . Starlings to at a lessor extent .

Puppy chow, kitten chow, soak to mash. You can mix in a few berries if you want.Refrigerate, but keep the small amount you feed at room temp.
Keep it warm, and feed it every time you walk by.Feed it every time it begs for food.
We raised robins and starlings the same way.
