When you see a fish on they belly you take him out and do mild chest compression and you use your own mouth to blow air into his mouth while you massaging him. That will save they lives. |

Dechlorinated the water and no fish in it for 2 1/2 days. I take advice. Quoting: Kilo 79571161 6 fish for a new 10-gallon tank is far too many. So, yeah, surprised 3 survived. That's about correct. If it's a new tank you need to go to the store where you purchased it, and get a piece of their filter and put it in yours. It takes several weeks before the safe good bacteria has built up in the tank. So, yeah, 3 fish will work, if the tank has cycled. |

It could be too many things without more details. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78301738 He failed to give his fish a resusitation to help them. That MAY BE fish slaughter but it's not fish murder. I think your on the wrong thread. |

New tank will have nitrate cycles where the water essentially becomes toxic. In the future, if you set up a fish tank, let it run for a few weeks before adding fish. But what you can do now to try to stabilize the tank and keep the remaining fish alive is do partial water changes frequently. Take out small amounts and add fresh water with some stress coat (let the new water sit for a few minutes with the stress coat in it before putting in) and a very small amount, like few drops of SAFE START PLUS. [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] Follow directions and do not put too much, this will help your tank cycle faster and better and possibly save your fish. Otherwise, keeping a fish tank is a learning experience, we all make mistakes along the way, especially early on. Don't feel too bad, it happens. You were smart to ask for advice, there are tons of videos and articles you can research that can help improve your aquarium health and fish knowledge and help with many problems you might encounter along the way. They were dead in minutes. Had to flush em down the toilet. That was my last pet. So I am not a good resource on this issue. |

It is probably not properly dechlorinated. You can use more than the bottle says. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80245576 Check ph. Is the water getting oxygenated? When fish are dying in a new tank I get aggressive and err on the side of too much stress coat / conditioner. I also agree with the posters above but personally I don't take it slow with the adjustment if it's a new tank/environment and this is happening because they're already f'd up and in shock. Lost my favorite little betta to incomplete dechlorination ;( |

If something goes wrong its effects are magnified. It's good to add 1 or 2 fish to start to begin the bacterial decontamination process and add more fish in a few weeks depending on what kind of filter is used. Other factors are water temp and contamination issues with new equipment. A good water quality testing kit would help a lott too. Good luck. |
