Amazon (do you love it or hate it)
Personally I really think the business model is a masterpiece.

How come I can go to 3-4 different local office supply stores and be told "sorry but we're out of those ink cartridges" but, I go on Amazon and can have it the same day or tomorrow. The same product the brick and mortar store told me would take a week to get?

Something is fucky, but I still love the convenience of Amazon. Delivered to my front door is a game changer.

Im poor so I get Prime for $5.99 and its easy to take stuff back. I just go to Kohls and there's never a line. No box. All you have to do is just bring it and set it on the counter. In whatever shape it in..

I don't see the savings. There are very many things that you get out of stock messages on. Prices aren't as great if you shop around.
That and the packaging and shipping is so darned destructive and wasteful.

Everything is taken out of the manufacturers boxes at the sort centers then repackaged in an amazon box.
Then everything is put on seperate trucks to get it specially to you.
How many times you order 5 items and they come in 5 boxes on 5 different days? Wasteful.

None of what you said has been my experience except wastefulness, I suppose.

Nothing is taken out of manufactures packages. Most everything is about the lowest price, except maybe ebay. Ill pass on ebay.

Free 2 day shipping even for small $5 items is amazing.

If I make 3 separate orders on the same day they almost always come in the same box

Amazon and Ebay are the mainstream of modern shopping. I still shop locally, local produce markets, local hardware and lumber, and big box home improvement when necessary.

Big box I can usually only find 50% of exactly what I am looking for. Some specialty food products are often impossible to find. Produce stands are the only satisfying shopping experience. I buy eggs from friends that farm.

Certified Wal*Mart free for about 15 years.

No SAMS Club, No COSTCO

No chain restaurants, no crappy fast food.

I order sometimes from online grocers such as GermanDeli.com and CajunGrocer.com

I may not like its main man and his leftist attitude, but he built an excellent company price wise and a fantastic array of items. I buy a lot from them.

However I pay close attention to Amazon expanding, I don't like monopolies. That, their suffocating work atmosphere and their co-operation with the spying agencies don't stick well with me.

There's no real friendship with such people and entities. They morph really quickly into something horrible. Look at Google, "don't be evil" ....

What size town do you live in or near? It will die out and be nothing but empty store fronts and unemployed people.
You might even end up a food desert. All your neighbors are just like you and will live to regret your convenience of today versus sustainability long term. You are at the mercy of Chinese shipping.

Re: Amazon (do you love it or hate it)
This morning I looked for a a 32 lb. bag of Milorganite Ferilizer. Prices from which to choose (no Prime available),
$34.99 and $38.99 per bag.

Before I ordered, I thought I'd better check Home Depot and Lowes. 32 lb bag: $16.98. I drove to Home Depot and have 4 bags in my car.

Three weeks ago, I ordered a $99.00 tablecloth from Macy's online. I assumed it would be safe to order it since $99.00 would probably be good quality. Amazon had more choices, but I was unsure of the quality since they were very inexpensive.

The Macy's tablecloth arrived 10 days later. It's very nice. I took the Code # off the bag and typed it into the Amazon site. Same tablecloth that was $99.00 at Macy's was $23.00 with Prime delivery on Amazon!

I appreciate the responses folks. My wife and I invested in a turn key operation that runs a back store on amazon, all I can say is we love you loving it. We are selling quite a few different items at the moment, believe it or not kitty litter is a money maker.

I live in a town not far from NYC. I normally shop local, especially food, but buy online only when I can't find the item I'm looking for. So I try to do my part to support local shops. I agree it's a double edged sword so I'm wary of online giants as well.

From what I've seen, the shops in my area are doing pretty well and they seem busy. Big box stores closed though, a SEARS store, JC Penney as well, but they should have been on their feet when online shopping exploded.

Also the big government should intervene in helping small businesses, but I'm not sure how much possible that is.

I know it's a complicated situation.

Hate it. Convenience is the road to loss of choice.

Once that's the state of things, all the prices will go up, up, up & you'll have no recourse or alternative.

You'll all complain loudly then, yet never admit or realize that you were a cog in their machine, too.
