juneau is a picturesque town..

the only place i've been in alaska. i was only there for two weeks visiting a friend who was going to school up there at the time.

I must be a real hard arse because I lived there and I hated it.

It’s rather cold, wet, and dark.

The people are really tough and hide their stuff. Elderly women single handedly shoot and kill bears.

Skiing is excellent.

Certain cold tolerant vegetables like pumpkins, crucifers, root crops grow gigantic there during summer due to glacial soil and long daylight hours.

Good place to live off the land, tons of clams, salmon, moose, wild berries. Big country, lots of uninhabited unspoiled land.

The weather in Los Anchorage isn’t bad. Up in the interior it gets very cold (I’ve been out in minus 67f). Winters are long. Shipping to and from AK is expensive. The road system is very small so unless you have a boat or an airplane, you’re limited to how much of the state you can access. You can’t enter or exit the state without going through a government checkpoint at the border or at the airport. Redeye flights get old quick. Alaska is a good place to spend half the year or so, but I wouldn’t want to live there anymore. There are some major perks to living in the lower 48.

Would love to visit but I couldn't handle being a full time resident. The extended hours of darkness/ midnight sun would be very hard to get used to. I've heard it messes with one's sanity and I'm borderline to begin with, lol.

The thought of cheap delicious seafood is extremely tempting though.

Idk about that, pretty sure seattle still holds that title.
