I've had enough
For the third time, the military recruiters have called my cell phone (we don't have a land line) asking to speak to my son. I have told them he is not interested and not to call again. Tonight the Srgt. Cp. Whoeverthefuck, told me they would keep calling until they spoke with him. That THEY need to see if he meets certain qualifications that THEY are interested in. WHAT THE FUCK? I said, "He is MY son and not 18 and YOU WILL NOT SPEAK TO HIM." She said, "You know what mam....." and then she shut up and told me to have a nice day and hung up.

This pisses me off to no end.

Good for you! Don't let them control you or your son, keep standing up to them!
No one is perfect. A babe before walking will first stumble and fall many times but NEVER gives up until he succeeds.

Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God.

If nothing else, remember this: religion = subservience, control and conformity, the same template as EVERY government

"Most believers would kill truth if truth threatened their religion." L. K. Washburn

"This crime called blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves." Robert Ingersoll

I was 18, and they badgered me to join for years. I was 24 when they finally left me alone.

Keep fighting them. They can be very slick and convincing at times.

2X, 3rddayrising here. Watch out for what may be going on as Bush just last year modified the conscription to enable them to take men up to the age of 46 and I forget what the womens new draft age was. I think 44. They have also provided the laws necessary to enact and enforce the draft. Only reason they would be doing that is if they intend to use it IMHO. I am former Mil and this is very odd for a recruiter to be so persistent...

See how things look this summer. Your idea of having him stay may be a good one. If the "war on terror" expands as Bush envisions, the draft may be forced upon us.

"Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen."

Hey X,

How are ya, sweetness? It's not really unusual for them to be so persistent. You know I've got two boys and they've called here til they are blue in the face for quite a few years now. First started calling for the oldest and now they're after the younger one.
When the same recruiter calls (can see it on caller i.d.) repeatedly, I keep telling them that he's not home, he's at work. They finally tire of calling and end up sending something through the mail and I toss it in the garbage.

I know it's aggravating, but I don't know what else you can do. Prepare your son to talk to them at his school. I was outraged and just plain pissed off when I found out that the recruiters go to the school's and talk to the boys without first informing the parents. Let your son know that he is NOT to encourage them in any way and tell him DO NOT fill out any forms with any type of personal information, although our school gave out some of our info. to the recruiters.

This was my post. 3rddayrising... Hey 2x, if your son is really considering joining, then perhaps you may want some facts so he knows exactly what the rules of the game are and everything is on the level before he makes his decision as these are things that the recruiter will not cover.

Inform him that the wages are approx a grand a month.

If he does serve, when he decides to get out, they may not let him, even though his obligatory duty is up. They can unilaterally extend your service simply by extending your tour of duty in acceptable circumstances.

Once he is out, he is under obligation and subject to recall to active duty as an inactive reservist for 8 years from the date of his DD-214 discharge papers without any notice whatsoever.

Finally, they very rarely prosecute anyone criminally anymore for going AWOL. They just give them a lousy discharge and send them on their way...

I've been fighting this battle for a couple of years with the schools - not wanting recruiters there, etc. This is the first time they have called my phone. There are aptitude tests given at most schools, in the junior and senior year - that are created by the military and the results are shared with the military. The students aren't told this when they take the test, just that it is a good test that will help them figure out what kind of career they are cut out for. I have always signed the "opt out" forms so that the military recruiters are not given our contact info from the high school -but something must have slipped through this time.

A whole year after I had enlisted I got a call while at
home on leave from the Navy. I spoke with the recruiter
for a little while until I finally told him that my USAF
squadron commander might not like me joining the Navy.

It's bad times for recruiters these days, but I feel no
sympathy for them. Too many of them engage in the very
least in lies of omission, and too many just out right
lie.

They promised me everything but the moon, and when I still wasn't interested, they promised that too.

Their final offer was $75,000.00 up front, another $75,000.00 in a "college fund", Military Intelligence (in writing), and a fast track through OTS (also in writing). I just laughed and said no thanks.
