I just find doing an actual turkey to be WAY too much effort, and both of the above ideas are 10x easier, and in the case of the pastry wrapped...fricken awesome, and about $60 if you can afford it.

My BIL did deep fried one year...that was epic, AND didnt burn his house down. Fun, but specialized, and Niche...not for everyone. Now that I know how to do it properly, its the only way I would cook an actual turkey.
