Any other Harley Riders out there?

I’ve been on an ADV/dual sport for the last three years now, don’t think I’ll ever go back.

I know a Harley guy.. Pres of a club and he knows all the 1%ers. This guy is vaxxed and says he thinks everyone should be forced to get it. Tough guy that I've known for over 40 years (first crush lol) and he's a big guy, too. He's also not into conspiracy theories whatsoever.

Was looking for a 250 Dual Sport (found a sweet little 2018 with less than 1000 miles).

I pulled up all bikes for sale by owner on Craig's List in a 100 mile radius. The majority were Harleys. Nice ones. A fair amount of dirt bikes and so forth, but mostly Harleys. I know several guys that are life long riders that are closing that chapter.. balance and strength not what it was.

I still have my 97 Heritage Softail I purchased new way back when. I could write a book of the last 24 years we have been together.
I can honestly say buying that bike changed my life for the better.

I Have the same bike in gloss black/gold and chrome.

I haven't ridden on the highways in years, the only way it is safe to ride any more is in a large pack, too many smart phones and SUV's driven by people who want to run you over to prove they can get away with it.

I'm an adv rider myself. I hit the trials on my klx 230 in the national forest up in talladega.

Slicked up fatboy,,, amongst others.. anything with 2 wheels.

I ride a 2004 Yamaha 1200 FJR. Fuel injected In-line four, factory 149hp. I saw in my rear view mirror two Harley riders want to pass. I waved them over and they passed and waved. OMG…. The oil blow by in the cylinders were so bad I had to pull over and stop. The fumes were so bad I couldn’t breath. How in the hell can Harley rides ride bunched together.

Harley piston rings are good for about 20 to 25k then they have to be changed out. It’s cheaper to sell them on Craigslist than to have them rebuilt. Besides, Harley aren’t built in America. They are assembled in America. All the parts like mirrors, seats, wire harnesses are all made over seas and shipped here for assembly.

But I still haven’t figured out who actually makes the engine rings?

As they rode by I did notice that they were newer bikes. I don’t know what year but they were at least modern.

Just last week, I rolled over 88,000 miles on my Road Glide. Burns no oil, leaks no oil, and doesn't smoke. Last compression test was within 2 lbs. of new on both cylinders.

You've been reading to much soyboy Jap/commie propaganda. The last HD I had that leaked even a drop was a 1978 FXE Superglide, and that was a very small leak.

And BTW, Hastings Mfg. makes the rings for HD, and has for quite a few years.

The evolution engine doesn't burn or leak oil any more than a car. But like a car, it might be worn out.


The AMF era Harley's were known for being leakers.

Other than boring jugs, re ringing a Harley can be done on the side of the road. It is a simple design and easy to work on.

No. The only way that could be true is if the bike was severely abused /not maintained.
