Author Anne Rice Dies of a Stroke Aged 80

There's a very dark side to a lot of artsy people.

The part of their brains that makes them good in the creative field apparently is offset by another part that controls their ethics and empathy. Generally, most of them lean to the political left. So a Rice is very likely to be a sociopathic liberal just like well-known writer Stephen King is.

I had the pleasure of talking with Anne once via email around the time she had written her first Christian novels. She was struggling with how to manage the swaths of 'church-people' who were telling her she needed to pull all of her old work off the shelves now that she was a Christian.

Among other comments, I shared with her a quote by C.S. Lewis which she hadn't heard before which read: "We read to know we are not alone." She seemed most taken by that quote and replied by saying that she thinks that she writes emails so that she wouldn't be alone.

In the end, her faith seemed more tied to the 'mystery' of the Catholic church than to Christ himself, but who am I to say? Like many, she couldn't rationalize the church's later rejection of her son for being gay, so she left it. Let's just hope that somehow she still found the truth of Jesus through all the clouds and smoke that the institutional church put in her way.

I’ve never read anything that the she has authored, but about a week ago I purchased 2 of her books. I haven’t gotten around to them yet though.

Once I picked up Interview with a Vampire, I read everything she had written within two months. I can't believe The Mummy was never made into a movie. A great story on it's own.

Romancing blood on the screen is extremely hard and I believe it is why I don't think the Interview film was very good. Cry to Heaven was a very good book, too.

I started her Belinda (and Sleeping Beauty series)under her pseudonym, but I just got the weebee jeebies with the underage teen girl being aggressive sexually with older guys.

80 that is a long life for sure. Most here will live into their mid 40s.

About 10 years ago I emailed her on some writing advice. She actually wrote back a long email. Then we started talking about our love of parrots and other things in life. She was really a good person. Still have our emails. Very sad to see she passed away.

what i think happened is that she was surprised by the success of interview, which is a truly fantastic book.

after that she just turned the crank for her mass market books.

seriously after interview the only thing that wowed me was the final bit of the body thief..

but i wont try to diminish interview, that book is the bomb.

even if you think vampire stuff is trite, she pretty much rebooted the whole thing away from bela lugosi.
