It’s a bad capacitor, Does anyone know a good place to get a capacitor online? Besides EBay and Amazon.
There are none local
My husband checked ACE and Home Depot and nothing!

Check supplyhouse.com.

I bought a capacitor for my irrigation pump from them a couple years ago.

I would have thought a local motor repair place would have a replacement capacitor with the correct MFD's.

Makes you wonder if it's a regional aquifer depletion problem.

We kinda thought that like the water just so happened to go down and our pump messed up from it
Along with a few other people in the town also having their pumps break.

I think it’s crazy that we can’t find a capacitor locally. You would think a store that sells pumps and their equipment would be a thing where people have wells, but there are none!

Well we found a capacitor from a local company. Switched it out and it still doesn’t work! So now we have to figure out what to do next.
Still hums when plugged in.
Thank you all for the suggestions and help!

We replaced the capacitor and the other part (I don’t know the name of it my husband does) and it still does nothing so oh well. Calling a company to replace the whole pump.
Lovely way to start the New Year!

Some reason several pumps went out ,

They were all installed about the same time by the same installer

Maybe a lightning strike, solar flare, power company surges
However it would seems with these, things like tvs and air conditioners, electronics would have suffered as well.

Maybe some kind of electrical surge from under ground?

Traveled through the water u dear ground and burned up the pumps?

Strange she’s not the only one with a well problem all of a sudden.

Re: People in the South with Well Pumps...
So sorry you have this issue op.

Mine went out a few years ago and started replacing a few things here and three before we realized we had to replace the entire damn pump!

It had lasted over 20 years, now with the new one we probably will have a couple more years before we have to replace this cheap crap made today.

If it ain’t one thing it’s something else.

Sending prayers cause this is not a good time for financial crap.

A surge in the voltage or a sudden drop in voltage can f anything up. Thats the explanation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79710200

Yep.. check the well pump controllers capacitor? Is it bulging? Some have a seal at the top that will blow out.. is yours blown? Usually this is a $5-15 repair.. I loose mine from extreme cold nearly every other year

I assume that the humming is coming from the controller and not the pump itself? That the pump is a submersible down in the well?

That would suggest you have power and its trying to turn the pump.. if nothing is coming up the well is dry...OR the pump is burned up/stalled/ choked with debris.. You can send a bobber on a string down perhaps to test the water depth, but you will probably have to haul that pump up.. trying to pump it when dry will burn out most pump designs...

So it’s apparently a weak spot in the coil. Whole thing has to be replaced.

Sounds more like the check valve / foot valve like I said earlier. It's lost its prime.

Re: People in the South with Well Pumps...
I realize well water pumps into the house via electric, but shouldn't you have a hand pump well? If you have to depend on electric I'd rather just have city water. Real country is pumping it by hand.
