Sure, there are still kinks to get out and, as of right now, there are drawbacks to them, no doubt. But the world IS moving this direction and 50 years from now, EVs will be everywhere, in nearly every garage. Their ranges will eventually defeat the ranges of gas-powered vehicles and their reliability will completely demolish that of a gas-powered vehicle. It's funny watching people hate something just because it's different or they don't understand it. The climate change argument aside, electric vehicles are far superior to gas-powered vehicles in nearly every way, even today and it will only get better over time, especially with more competition in the marketplace. |

User ID: 70954232 United Kingdom 01/17/2022 06:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the hate for electric vehicles?? every time an electrical current is transformed there are at least 20% losses. have you any idea how much loss there is with electric vehicles. for starters there is the loss that travels down the high voltage electricity line before it gets to your local low house voltage transformer.. let's say that's about 20%, but it's more likely in the region of 30%. now ,the transformer putting out your 110/230 v house mains is going to want another 20% of it... then the charger that converts the 110/230 ac mains into the dc voltage needed to plug into an electric car is, you guessed it, going to want another 20%.. the batteries in the vehicle will consume another 20% is losses then the transformer/mosfet on the vehicle controller is going to want another 20%... and the motor at the drive wheel is going to take another 10% meanwhile on a combustion engine.. there are none of those losses. and somehow it's saving the environment? more pollution is made at the power plant providing the electric and all those losses along the way than a dozen cars would for just powering one vehicle. the electric car industry is INSANE! i like electric cars and combustion just the same. now put on top of that ELECTRONIC operated front brakes on a TESLA , i'd never get in one of those in my life! notsofastmr |

How are we going to run electric cars in the future, if our power grids can't even sustain our household during winter to stay warm or summer to stay cool ? Almost every 6 months there is an article put out tell people to try to minimize their consumption. Plus they have put zero effort in maintaining the line structure. I can't count the amount of times the power has gone out after strong winds. I think they are putting the cart before the horse and have not thought this through. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 81882422 United States 01/17/2022 06:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | EV's in general are neat, but as far as I'm concerned the best technology for the overall world system at this time is hybrid technology. Vehicles like the Prius are great, and they work great in many applications and scenarios. There are many situations where a fully electric vehicle is severely lacking compared to a hybrid or gas vehicle. If EV technology was fully fleshed out, people wouldn't need to be convinced to buy one, they would want one because it would be better than the other options available. Many people needed to be forced to start using CFL light bulbs because most of them were garbage and they often put out garbage quality light or didn't last nearly as long as their rating. Once LED technology became more mainstream, people naturally flocked to them for the better color, increased efficiency, and long life. Almost my entire home is currently full of $1-2 each LED bulbs because they are cost effective, efficient, and the ones I have picked after reading online reviews just work, and they work for years without issue. EV's are in the CFL stage right now, I will happily wait for their LED stage before I ever think to buy one. |

The climate change argument aside, electric vehicles are far superior to gas-powered vehicles in nearly every way, even today and it will only get better over time, especially with more competition in the marketplace. Some people actually understand science, energy supply and diversification issues, raw material supply and diversification, and a host of other issues that dictate that electric cars are, in general a very bad idea at the present time. It is good that you set aside climate arguments, because there are no climate arguments against standard tech, there are just idiotic statements without any real supporting evidence. There is a mountain of evidence that demonstrates that CO2 does not and cannot drive climate however. The world is also not organically moving in the direction of EVs, it is be forced that way by ignorant, corrupt, and criminal government. When you take away government corruption and theft and subsidy schemes (no Tesla is not profitable without money stolen from other auto makers and given to them), EVs are not competitive or attractive. Serious advances in battery tech could change all of that, but we just aren't there yet, and may never be. We can make some pretty amazing batteries now, but being able to make one out of materials with enough abundance to replaced fueled vehicles and that also can be efficiently manufactured is much further down the road than retarded politicians, and billionair hucksters would have you think. I don't hate the idea of electric cars, I hate that they are being forced down our throats by people so stupid and uninformed that they wouldn't be able to even grapple with the complexities involved in understanding these issues, much less be able to make an intelligent choice about what to do about them. |

THese are not fuel cells and you get the good old revving and gears! beat that electric! Hydrogen is, by far, the stupidest idea going on with vehicles right now. The biggest problem is that hydrogen is not an energy source on earth. We have to use energy to create it at a net loss and them combust it or run it through a fuel cell at another net loss. We would probably also need to start mining asteroids to get enough precious metals both for hydrogen production, without the use of fossilfuels, and for fuel cells. EVs are currently stupid, but they are worlds better that hydrogen. |
