Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80813986 Would half in the morning and half in the evening be better or I just take the whole thing now in the morning? Just space it over 24 hrs. If in pain, do it now, I guarantee that within the hour that hot burning sensation will be gone. Has your piss been dark orange color? Dark yellow orange. Eww. Smells too (sorry). Life is life, piss is a good indicator of dehydration. You will find it foams in the bowl too. You are dehydrated. Get rid of the gout and then take electrolytes to aid in hydration. Don't do the bicarb for more than a few days. |

I have had Gout over 20 years now and unable to control the attacks naturally. I MUST take Uloric every day I tried Allopurinol but was hard on my kidneys so I can only take Uloric. Quoting: Soundman If I ever forget to take Uloric on the 3rd day like clockwork I will have a knee or ankle the size of a grapefruit. If I ever allow it to get to the point you are at OP the ONLY fix is a steroid shot then few colchicine pills and a few Indomethacin pills and Im on my feet in a day or so. Then back on the Uloric and I seldom have a problem. I have tried everything from tart cherry, alkaline water, lots of spring water, no alcohol and no purine rich food but without Uloric I will be in bed unable to move in 3 days. The ONLY at home fix I have found is Epsom salt. A soak in Epson salt bath will help at least enough so I can somewhat get from the bed to the bathroom if I am in the middle of an attack, it eases the pain perhaps 10% for about an hour but if you have a full blown Gout attack you will welcome that 10% reduction in pain. At one point I was buying 25 lbs bags of Epson Salt from Amazon. Epson Salt is amazing and my house plants love it too.... Well I do have Colcichine tablet 1mg but they are laxative and as you say dragging yourself to the bathroom is excruciating. Uloric I searched but cannot find can you send a link wehere to buy? Non-prescription? Many thanks. ULORIC Link... [link to www.drugs.com (secure)] Its all bad stuff I'm sure, I do so wish I could control my Gout naturally but I can't... I have had gout in my toe before but never my knee, that would suck. The pain came on in waves like it would build up in my toe with ever increasing throbbing pain and then it would "release" and this wave of extreme pain would wash slowly up my body and then back down to my foot again. I remember writhing around in bed for like two days because I could not get comfortable at all. I would be in pain, but it felt like the pain would just keep increasing, and never subside. One minute it is the worst pain I ever felt, then literally a minute later it has increased and it is a new level of intensity for the worst pain I ever felt. It was incredibly awful, like you smash your toe with a sledge hammer and then smash your whole foot and keep smashing it until it is a mashed up paste of blood and cracked shards of bone. And then you keep smashing it so any nerve endings that are still connected are sending your brain nothing but pain signals. I think it was my diet. I was drinking too much alcohol, not getting enough exercise and also eating shit food like frozen pizzas and frozen pre cooked ribs in cheap BBQ sauce and frozen chicken wings from the dollar store. I managed to get some black cherry juice and drank it constantly and I think it reduced the overall time of the gout event from like a week to just 3 days or so. If you don't know where to get black cherry juice try a grocer that specializes in Eastern European imported foods. |

Sorry to hear. Anyone who has not experienced the pain of gout cannot imagine how bad it is. I could not regulate it without allopurinol, 100mg/day which works like a champ for 15 years now. However, I can still flare if not careful to hydrate and avoid certain foods. Only time I had it in my knee, I was on a ski trip and ate a fair amount of red meat, shellfish, coupled with beers and skiing which I dont do often. Knee woke me in the middle of the night, red hot, throbbing pain, and I could not put it in a position to get relief. Generally, I can eat whatever I want in moderation, even scallops, lobster, steak, etc. However, if I eat EGGPLANT this is a guaranteed flare for me. So OP, maybe there is some obscure food you ate that triggered it? Or you had a slight twist of the knee, banged it on something, or stepped on it wrong and thought nothing of it? Lots of good advice in this thread, good luck and hopefully by now the worst is past. |

Come to think of it I did slip on the bottom step coming down the stairs at my parents house, but it was not painful just a sudden jerk which launched me forward so I had to stretch my arms out to the opposing wall not to lose my balance. But that was Sunday afternoon and there was no pain or anything. This all started last night so more than 24 hours later. As far as hydration I drink around 3 liters of water a day so for the life of me I cannot fathom why I would be dehydrated.. Works within the hour, at least to stop the burning sensation, the inflammation will subside. THIS. you can get gout just from being dehydrated. More: water, electrolytes, fiber. |

It has saved me many times when I ate/drank something that I shouldn't and felt my feet and ankles swelling up. After you have gout, it may be too late to use lithium. You may have to let it run uts course now. Lithium is a mineral not a drug. I am not a medical doctor and am not giving medical advise. |
