Anonymous Coward User ID: 27231214 Canada 02/14/2022 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hardly ever post threads but something weird is going on regarding a new house being built next door. Quoting: Peepaws I live in Washington and this area is experiencing a housing boom. Lots are being bought up and houses built on them. There is a house being built next to my older house. I haven't paid much attention to the crew, and they have been leaving me alone until this past Friday when the main guy asked me if they could use my water hose for some sheet rocking/dry wall installation that day. He told me he would pay me $100, I said sure. I will call him Stefan, he is an eastern European guy and very friendly. He went in a car with another guy to get money, and when they got back, he came running up to me in my front yard. I noticed the guy who was with him was still in the car, and was really glaring at me. I asked Stefan if the (glaring) guy in the car was eastern European too. He said no he is from Mexico. Well later that evening, after everyone had gone, the Mexican guy came to my door. He asked me if Stefan had said anything to me earlier about the electricity. I said no, what are you talking about? He said they needed to use my electricity overnight for the sheet rock to dry. I didn't like the idea and told him so, but he said their generator had run out of fuel and they need to dry out that house. I asked if anyone would be there Saturday morning and he said yes, Stefan would be around then. So their cable was plugged into my house to power a few heaters and propane heaters with live flames, which went on for the entire weekend, as no one came around like he said they would. I spent all weekend worrying about it and then this morning I saw a guy over there, the Mexican guy's partner whose English was not so good but ok. I told him I wanted them to unplug their cable, that it was supposed to have been used Friday night and that was it. His response was that they need to use it today too. I told him if he sees Stefan to tell him to come talk to me. I called the owner of this house and told him what was going on, and he was pissed. He said it could overwhelm the circuits and that they were taking advantage, as they are supposed to have their own source of electricity. I told him I am afraid to unplug it because it's connected to a lot of other wires and hoses and tanks in that house, and I don't want anything to blow up. I don't want to risk a fire, or those guys doing something bad. At this point I am more worried about safety than the money, if this is how they are I will likely get nothing. I don't get it. Contractors and/or construction workers aren't supposed to strong-arm people living in nearby houses to tap into their electricity. I would like to know if it would be a fire hazard if I unplug it. There are like 3 fans and 2 propane heaters connected to a tank. The electric cable plugged into my house is plugged into like a splitter, with more plugs and wires branching off. This whole thing will likely jack up my electric bill as it is. I could wait till tomorrow but I don't want to pay another night for these sheet rock electricity thieves. call the fire department. |

I think you are right, scumbag builder. My friend's husband who is in construction had talked to the builder who told him he knew nothing about the electricity issue, that was just the sheet rock guys department, but that didn't sound right to me. I decided not to unplug their electric line going into my house's power tonight because it seems the propane tanks in that house would have to be shut off too. As soon as I see any of them in the morning I am going to give them back their plug and tell them to get their electric themselves like they are supposed to. Two 1 stars from thieves probably! Anonymous Coward User ID: 32783471 Canada 02/14/2022 10:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hahaha the builder was suppossed to supply power, always. The drywallers sometimes supply the heaters. Font be mad at the drywallers, be mad at the builder. The drywallers are just trying to ge their job done and they were polite enough to ask you. Tell the buildet yo get power before he builds. What a retard the builder is. Stop sending trades to a house you have no power hooked up at Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75958720 This exactly. These guys just want to get the work done and probably are very very appreciative. I would deal with the builder / general contractor directly. Threaten a bad Google review that will go a long way with a builder. Trust me on that. The builder is much less likely to be as crazy as those guys. Drywallers, roofers, and framers. Probably the toughest guys on the job site. |

It was the dry wall guys who told me they needed to use my electric though, they didn't really even ask. I just know it wasn't my responsibility to furnish electricity to a house being built next store that I have nothing to do with. I appreciate the information because this topic I know nothing about.
