There are plenty of Chernobyl hot-spots remaining, and that was after a extremely large attempt by Russia to cap that mess. The people of that area had vastly higher cancer rates.

A slow leak of radiation from wasted nuclear plants is NOT that same as megaton detonations that put vast amounts of material, radioactive and not, into the atmosphere where it gets to circulated around and poison the world and blot out the sun. A real nuclear war could potentially involved hundreds of explosions. If you think Chernobyl and Fukushima are comparable to that, well no intelligent conversation is possible.
