OIL MOGUL JUST ADMITTED OIL SUPPLY IS INFINITE

The conversion process takes more energy than you get out of the "converted" oil. It's what people call a "net energy loser". Like synthetic oil. Or making gold. Gold can be manufactured as well, but it takes so much energy (money) that it's cheaper and more profitable to mine gold using conventional methods. You can do it, it just doesn't make money/profit. Those "recoverable reserves" do not consider the cost of extraction. Physically, (based on current physics) the resources can be extracted. It's possible physically. The question is at what point does it cost too much to extract. We should call those "reality reserves". The volume that can be extracted at a profit at todays prices.

Like shale and hydraulic fracturing. It takes so much energy and money the end product doesn't usually generate much profit. If any. That's why the "shale miracle" ended with a lot of bankrupt energy companies, mergers, buy outs, and burnt investors. I think that has some to do with why it's so slow ramping production back up. The tier 1 areas have been drilled. The crews that were laid off have found more reliable sources of income. Frack sand shortages. etc.

Oil is condensed, easily stored, transported, and used energy.

But at some point the cost of obtaining and using it outweighs the economic value of the activity.

You can make it. It is simply carbon and hydrogen. Neither is in short supply, but the process takes more energy than the product.

It can still be useful, e.g. one million units of slave labor or static solar power to generate one thousand units of diesel that you can then power machines to do what slaves/solar can't do would be 'worth it'.


The real question is as the economy shrinks, do the vampires shrink their take or do they continue to draw more and more blood and kill the host.

At one time I worked in the oil industry and I will tell you this, there’s more oil in the ground than they know what to do with. I suspect someone wants to save it all for themselves in the future.

I believe this. We have wells drilled in the early 60's. The amount of oil being produced slow down a bit about 15 years ago. A couple of years ago, the amounts coming from the well began to approach the amounts produced when the wells were first drilled.
