But seems to be cancelled or on-hold for both. Quoting: Redcat1 Central Kentucky. It does seem to be a nation wide trend in large industrial projects. It looks to me that the writing is now off the desk and on the wall. I think its safe to say that smaller industries and small business is about to follow suit. The retail sector will be the last tards to figure this out, closing on their million dollar homes clapping their little hands right up until the moment that they find out that they no longer have a job. |

Overgoverned
User ID: 80483752 United States 04/12/2022 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Something similar took place in the aftermath of the 2008 financial meltdown. I heard of several companies, and the one that sticks in my head is Michigan-based megamart retailer Meijer, who abruptly shelved all expansion plans that'd been in place. The difference here is that that crisis had done happened, and they were reactively circling their wagons. This time, some smartest guy in the room types think they can see the writing on the wall. This writing is on the wall, but the bigger, unanswerable questions are "when" and "how bad". |

I'm really surprised about that but again, it's a global collapse that's imminent. everyone white from the cities is making a beeline to places like that |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 82271685 04/12/2022 10:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is news as of today. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82810580 Amazon has been building new facilities at an amazing pace for the last 10 yrs. All over the U.S. Today, the word came down that they are halting all new construction. I am not sure if this is just projects that are now in the engineering stages or if it includes others in more advanced stages. For sure, it applies to those in engineering phase. Also other large companies are doing the same. These other companies were in a hurry to start, bought properties for 1-3M sq ft buildings and then all of a sudden put them on hold. One company did say specifically that they are now waiting for a 'correction'. This was not amazon. Amazon is not giving a reason to those that I know. sometimes, uncle intel is true. I can now say this because I have the info first hand. what do they know? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80865067 United States 04/12/2022 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — An attorney representing the family of a man killed when an EF-3 tornado struck an Amazon Warehouse in Edwardsville says he has uncovered new information that could prove the building wasn't up to code. When the family of Austen McEwen filed a wrongful death suit against Amazon in January, they stated their reasoning loud and clear. |

User ID: 74785546 United States 04/12/2022 10:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Edwardsville, Illinois Tornado exposed some shady construction to the warehouse, one being pillars not anchored. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80865067 Amazon construction company is getting sued. Two reasons. Yes, this. They said the way in which it was built is particularly dangerous in high winds. But it's a quick, easy (probably cheap) build. Others were likely built in the same manner. [link to www.ksdk.com (secure)] EDIT: Sorry, I see this is a double post! Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 82810580 United States 04/12/2022 10:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | my thoughts on this is that first, this is very unusual for what they have been doing over at least the last 10 yrs because their market share has increased every year . As fast as they been getting built, they have started more. The avg financial 'expert' in msm would find this very unusual because all signs point to Amazon gaining more market share as they continue to expand. There is no reason for Amazon and others to halt expansion. I think we are finally seeing sure signs of an economic collapse and those in the know are pulling back. |

User ID: 35509688 United States 04/12/2022 10:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work in construction in multiple states. I complete plans and the necessary submittal documents for various local, city and state approvals. Besides the general issues with supply chain for materials I have found that the lack of employees has been an issue. A current plan approval that would have taken about a month two years ago will now take three or more months. The state plan review department went from 5 employees to one employee. Last Edited by SmoothSailing on 04/12/2022 10:45 PM "A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." Marcus Tullius Cicero |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81953666 this is a relatively unknown fact which has just been disclosed to engineering companies. It's just new news which will become public in cases where disclosure to investors is necessary. |

It wouldn't be wise for me to disclose the name of that company. It could trickle back to my contact. I will say that they have plans for several multi-million sq ft buildings on a very large tract of land in one of the most booming parts of the country. That area is growing like a wild fire and to cancel construction in the end of the engineering phase in a time of insane expansion of the local economy doesn't make 'normal' sense. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78596816 United States 04/12/2022 10:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They might be expecting a real estate crash or at least correction. Would make sense unless they already bought the land and just cancelling. Also could be having trouble getting materials. Amazon im not worried about, they built enough. If its happening to everyone its a problem. My amazon package got delayed today which is unusual, its always a day early. |
