The Bradford pear, a non-fruiting variety, has overtaken the south by displacing native tree species.

It was approved by the FDA a few decades ago, on the basis that it was incapable of reproducing outside of a nursery...

As in it had to be grafted onto other stock to be propagated.

So now southern states have to battle Bradford pear trees and kudzu, another invasive plant that can grow a foot a day.

The pear trees are pretty in the spring, though. But they are everywhere.

We have two of those trees on our property. We planted one and one other came up not far from it but that's only one extra tree over the 15 or so years its been since the first one was planted. They have some huge thorns on them that will stick the shit out of you if you are careful and they get pretty big which casts a lot of shade. But I think in an apocalyptic setting, where you would eat anything, the tree would be really good as it makes a fuck ton of the little pears, hundreds per tree.

Charlestown indiana 5 years ago planted luke 100 Bradford pear trees all across the town. New mayor gets elected and starts ripping them out of the ground. This is America. Where they spend our tax money with little to no thought. I am not an arborist. I am a carpenter. But 5 years ago I knew Bradford pear trees where not good choices. They break and fall apart in high wind when bigger. Because they are not native to this area. But the governor at the time didn't care. They looked pretty in spring time. That is our American governments.

Bradford pears break like toothpicks in a wind storm. I planted and removed 2 of them at my previous residence.

The normies stuff themselves with pitzah from Walmart, so they don't care.

There are several evasive species that ruin properties and homes as well as rural areas. Ignorant people continue to plant them. Bamboo grows underground and under foundations. It's almost impossible to eradicate.

Bamboo is the one I want banned nationwide. I hate it so much I often fantasize about moving to DC to be a muck raker and have it made illegal and replaced with hemp or some other non evasive species.

To create privacy walls the best choice is evergreens.

Do NOT ever plant Bamboo, honeysuckle, Bradford pear, seedpod bearing pink cherries(creates a pod that blows into everything), Hackberry trees, seed bearing Maples and English Ivy is also a huge no no.

Oak trees that bear acorns should only be planted on very large properties and carefully maintained. If you don't want squirrels don't plant those either.

There is such a thing as legitimate environmental sciences, it's not all Liberal crap. Planting evasive species is one of the dumber things people do to the planet. Each region of the world used to have it's own unique plants, now many have spread worldwide that shouldn't be there. Like the Starlings, plants can invade and take over. They are stronger than you think.

My kids and I were just talking about how we hate those trees- they smell so bad! They’re blooming in Northern CO and I remember lots of them in VA and GA. Grossest smelling flowers and they grow thick in the middle so wind easily wreaks havoc on them. I hope we all get rid of them.
