Nashville Grocery Close after 70 years; thousands affected all incomes
The Piggly Wiggly on West End Ave, across the street from Vanderbilt University Campus, closed after 70 years of being a grocery store of one type or another.

It served thousands of low income, handicapped and Elderly residents of a large high rise just one block away. Most of those residents do not drive or own vehicles. This has to be devastating for them. All they have now is a Walgreens about 2 more blocks away.

But not just low income are affected. The area is full of million dollar plus condos and rental apartments all who depended on the grocer. Students without cars shopped there. It made the area a "walking neighborhood", where you could easliy live without a car and take buses. No more.

There are no plans to bring any grocery store back.

For myself it's devastating, it was one of my go to places. You could have lunch at one of dozens of restaurants, shop for clothes or other things, then stop in the grocery before hitting home. It changes the entire fabric of Nashville to lose that store.

That is sad news. I remember going to the Piggly Wiggly once with my Grandpa. The name always stuck with me.

It is so sad to see so many losses of familiar names and places in America.

Its just getting started.....Inflation and shortages will kill off many stores.....the rampant looting/shoplifting will finish off the rest....unless things change, we'll be shopping Soviet Union style with less choices.....is today meat or rutabaga day?

vitacost, costco, and walmart mail many non-perishable groceries.

i feel for those people, this is just another example showing how city life is unnatural and not "sustainable" and have no "resiliency" not in the USA or anywhere black/brown peoples are.

what will the govt do? create more grift programs for parasites? or raise the allocations to those on social security (most especially) and disability to liveable levels?

Clarence Saunders invented Piggly Wiggly stores in 1916. The first opened in Memphis. It was the first modern supermarket.

"It changes the entire fabric of Nashville to lose that store"??????

99% of Nashville will never notice that store closed. Is Nashville changing-Hell Yes. But that one store closing makes little to no difference. Virtually nothing in that area of town is the same as it was 10 years ago.

Probably to put in a starbucks or some other worthless democrat hangout.

I'm still angry about Belle Meade Cafeteria and Gerst House being closed.
Kamala Harris is not a Natural Born Citizen. She's illegally running.

Used by the Founders...
Book I of The Law of Nations, Chapter XIX, § 212 (Joseph Chitty numbering) – “Citizens and natives”
reads: 'The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to
its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in
the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by
the children of the citizens
, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all
their rights.' 1758 Emerich de Vattel

Oh' What the Hell, do I look like I want to die in some nursing home one day...
America must have 4 new Constitutional Amendments...
1. Drug Tests and Mental Evaluations on all politicians and judges randomly five times per year.
2. Term Limits for Federal politicians and judges.
3. Mental and health standards for Supreme Court Justices and retirement age set.
4. A 'Star Chamber' of elected Natural Born Citizens (no attorney's) to ivestigate, try, and prosecute the politicians and government employee's as they see fit.

Mandatory death penalty by public hanging is the merciful sentence for pedos and their associates.

Turnip truck is an overpriced hippie foodstore run by a commie. They don't carry most products people want. I never shop there, just the smell alone when you walk in sickens me.

Harris Teeter left Nashville years ago. The nearest store is about 2 miles, a crap dirty Kroger. Its shocking how far downhill Kroger went during covid. They had just renovated about three years ago. The place was filthy I couldn't believe it.

To people who questioned the hardship this will cause, may the grocery store closest to you close, so you can feel the pain.

Generally, that's not what is happening in Nashville.

It's growing to fast and the properties are becoming far more valuable than the current business on them.
