I’m not in favor of a sweeping ban on AR-15s. But if you’re vehemently opposed to a special permit for these weapons, chances are you’re a nut job with a screw loose and you’re worried you won’t meet the mental health requirements for ownership.

Honestly, I assumed he was against gun ownership in general. There's a story about an intern at SpaceX in the very early days of the company landing in hot water because he brought a gun to a military base, thinking that his concealed carry license allowed him to do that. I figured that would leave a bad taste in Elon's mouth about the intelligence of gun owners.

Technically an assault rifle is classed as fully auto capable of high rate sustained fire, small enough for infantry of all classes to carry a loadout.

Not a single weapon used in ANY of the recent shootings would qualify.
