All this drone footage that seems to lead everyone to believe that they are almost impossible to hide from comes from our desert wars.

In forested terrain, especially in mountains of any kind it is much, much harder for a drone operator to spot you. Using the visual spectrum it's going to be damn near impossible to spot a decently camouflaged person in a large forest.

Thermal imaging will fare better, but it too will struggle. Mountainous and even moderately hilly terrain dramatically cuts what percentage of the sky you are exposed to. If you hide in the folds of terrain you can cut exposure to the sky by 90% or more. That means the drone has to be in just the perfect spot to even have a chance at spotting you through the trees.
