LSD was invented when it was synthesized in a laboratory. It is not easy to make. It takes exotic chemicals and a master's in chemistry to synthesize. No one had it until it was created by Albert Hoffman.
Read the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. If I remember correctly, Ken Kesey was a test subject for the drug and took it out into the public. He had Hells Angels and all other kinds of people tripping out on acid in the California forests.
