Whats with the killer bees? I didn't think they lived this far north. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84109029 If you don't like to use chemicals, another way to deal with underground nests........Find the entrance hole and the exit hole. Put a clear glass jar or bowl over each hole. The hornets will try to exit, cause they are looking for light at the end of the tunnel and are stopped by the glass. Eventually they die. It's best to do this after sundown after all the hornets have returned to the nest for the night. Yeah I don't like to use chemicals unless necessary. My favorite is the water and dish soap method but that only works for holes on a flat surface that go straight down vertical. I like that jar method too but i've seen them dig right around the sides because they are tough creatures. I had to use sevens dust on this current nest because the hole was horizontal in a ditch and the other methods don't work for the sort of nest. |

The incident occurred when Austin Bellamy, 20, climbed a tree Friday morning to help a friend trim its branches before he accidentally cut into a nest full of African killer bees, his mother Shawna Carter wrote on a GoFundMe page established to help with his medical expenses. Research from the United States Department of Agriculture shows that Africanized honey bees "are more defensive, stinging more with less provocation than other honey bees." According to WCPO-TV, Carter said the Ripley Fire Department told her the bees were killer bees. Per the outlet, a Southwest Ohio Beekeepers Association spokesperson said a bee sample would need to be analyzed to identify the species. Continued... After that many stings he will develop an allergy to stings (and possibly honey) going forward. |

Honeyees sting once and then die. So maybe they just counted the dead bees? 20,000 sounds like pure BS to me. Probably more like 200 to 400. Pretty sure he would be dead with 20,000 stings.
