Sorry to hear that, lost my cat to cancer about a year ago and it was hard to watch. I have seen what that crap does to dogs and it's not a pleasant thing to witness I couldn't imagine what it does to a cat.

I had to have our 18 year old darling Kali put to sleep just today. She was riddled with cancer and fading in agony. I feel your loss.

Re: My Darling "Tuxedo Cat" Teaky died from D-con poisoning today. I'm so sad.

My Tuxedo cat named "Teaky" passed away peacefully at home
today. He was really big--about 15 lbs--and a real lover.

:ReachingCAT:

Teaky was 9 years old and had a very full life, but
a stray field mouse from outside our building came in
through the plumbing in the wall. Teaky was an always
in-door cat so he wasn't normally hunting mice.

:FairUSE:
(Don't watch this if you have recently lost a pet.
It makes me start up again when I watch it.)

The mouse had ingested D-con BEFORE Teaky caught him and
the secondary poison was enough to kill him. Here is a
little info on d-con and another mouse-poison that is used
--D3--JUST LIKE THE VITAMIN! So watch carefully you don't
drop any D3 vitamins.

Please say some kind words for Teaky tonight--and PLEASE
pray for comfort for our family and our chihuahua Dolly who
was his "buddy."

If you have cats be watchful for this. EVEN IN-DOOR CATS
can get this poisoning.

I'm so sad tonight.

NOTE: I am sorry that I didn't get to host our yearly
LABOR DAY CAPTION CONTEST AND UPGRADES...I was dealing
with Teaky "crashing" and just couldn't muster the energy
to do one.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, We had him on meds as the d-con stuff stops blood
from clotting. He was making progress until the solar
thing happened between 5th and 6th and he just crashed.
It was a real shock as we were so sure he would pull through.

He was a brave little fighter and he saved Dolly from
getting the mouse--he was a real trooper.

Horrible that these poisons have to be used. Seems like
with all the science something else could be used to
control field mice. It was the first mouse we had seen
in 10 years being in the building. They recently tore up
the big park near our place and I'm thinking all the little
mouses who burrowed in that park didn't know where to go.

Everyone hates what they did to the park--even cut down
all our trees and leveled the little hills. It's awful
looking. They think it is progress. And now all this damage for someone foolish ideas of "progress" as a spin-off.

I am going to tell you a story.
My son and I had a cat that left the house one night and never returned. Later he was working at one of our State Parks and people were dumping cats there. It just so happened a small little guy about 4 months old started really talking to my son and following him around. My son just had to have him. He looked like the spitting image of the guy who left us. Now not only does he look like the other cat, he sleeps in similar silly ways - and has similar body language.

More recently our longtime companion kitty was hit by a car. I was and have been devastated. We live in the back of the subdivision near the greenway, and it was a shock that he was hit. I have had a pretty hard time moving on from this. It was when I was having one of my tough times that my son wrote that the new little cat he found at the park reminded him so much of the previous cat he came to believe it was just the next of 9 lives, he asked - he said they are supposed to have 9 lives right?

He assured me he feels this cat I am having so much trouble about losing, will find us - he will find a way - we just have to keep an open mind and watch ~

I don't know if you want to consider this thinking or not - but I am so sorry you lost your cat and I know how hard it is because I just went through this myself. This recent loss was a particularly hard one. Even I am shocked by how deeply painful its been since we lost him.

Hi Bastetcat!

Thanks for your kind words and consolence. We are both
very heartsick tonight. It just happened today so I think
we are both in shock--I keep thinking I'll see him come
around the corner...I look at his chair and think I see him
still sitting there. His little kibble bowl and water...
the unused pail of kitty litter--even THAT makes me sad.
It is just so odd.

We haven't had anyone pass away around us in many years
--we have been blessed--so this is very hard. It makes you
really think hard about mortality and everything.

So sad for your loss as well. ...AND A FROG? I have never
heard about something like that. Must have been a poisonous
frog. I know there are those in jungles and stuff but
not on people's lawns. wow.

We'll be o.k. Going to do some rituals tomorrow. I still
talk to Teaky around the house.

I had my cat cremated and they were so kind to make a paw imprint that I did not know was part of the deal.
I caused me to actually gasp and meant so much!

For some reason I had begun saving hair in a baggie after brushing my cat, maybe because he was shedding this summer so much that I found it kind of amusing how much was building up, in this omg this is gross but cool and maybe I could spin this stuff kind of thinking - and then when I lost him, I was so grateful to have this memento of his hair. I carry a little bit of it in my purse so I can have his "power" with me at all times.

Yeah, I Loved him so much - he left a noticeable vacancy in this house.

Re: My Darling "Tuxedo Cat" Teaky died from D-con poisoning today. I'm so sad.
So sorry to hear about your loss.

My cat of 19.5 years died earlier this year. I miss her so much.

Since then, I've befriended 10 feral cats. A mama cat, a papa cat, and 8 offspring (3 males from last year, 5 undetermined sex this year). I've domesticated them all except for the 5 born a few months ago. 3 live inside with me, the other 7 live in my backyard. The 5 born this year are almost domesticated. I need to grab the females and get them fixed within the next month (inbreeding will not be tolerate).

I built a habitat box for them. It has silent heating panels and heated pads to sleep upon for winter life. They eat a lot of wet and kibble cat food, but the outside cats also supplement with mice and rabbits. The papa cat looks very much like your cat. And he's the most trusting and sweetest of them all. He gets all happy abs excited when I go out to pet him at night. He stands guard at night while the others sleep (many coyotes and wolves around here).

Get another cat as soon as you're ready. Many need to be rescued.

So sorry for Teaky, i had a cat who ate a poison mouse too.

Kittikins was a prolific mouse hunter.. always loved to eat their head first

One night i was leaving and saw her with a captured mouse that looked sort of bloated at a quick glance in my truck healights

I thought about taking it away but was in a hurry, never saw her again.

I had no experience with any mouse poison and that it bursts all their blood cells making them bloated...

I regretted not taking it away..

Well...that answers one of my observations.

You go through these "life experiences" for a reason
--I just am NOT "getting" WHAT THIS LESSON WOULD BE.

By the way, even if you had taken the mouse away from
the cat--if they even get a little bite from the mouse
they have--they are in danger of disease and all kinds
of creepy stuff. Mice are NOT OUR FRIENDS despite what
we learn from Disney and Mickey Mouse.

Sorry for your cat's suffering.

I'm glad you bring this up.

I would say from this experience that I would really
consider euthanasia if you are POSITIVE your animal has
ingested d-con/rat poison. There really is NOT ANY WAY
TO REVERSE THIS (it is in God's hands, of course) and
not acting immediately to keep the animal from suffering
is not advised.

It does hurt.

I'd love to "educate my neighbors"...but sadly we backup
to property in an industrial area--graineries and such that
are very keen to keep mice from their warehouses. For the
most part I believe the sudden up-tick in mice coming into
buildings in our area was a development project for the
city park--huge earth moving equipment that obviously has
upset the ecosystem of this whole area.

I certainly don't set out mouse bait--neither does our
landlord...it's the big agribusinesses in the area that
have the sophisticated culling units. We have no say so.

I don't know what the solution to unconscious humanity
in general putting other critters at risk==including other
human beings.

Just hope for a better day.

Thanks for your story. I'm so sorry you feel responsponsible
for your fur baby's injury.
