remember when they were promising 100 mpg cars.

And when people were building them in their back yards.

Or the 1947 Studebaker that got 149.95 mpg by the Shell scientists.

Electric cars are a scam.

It's funny really.

Many of the first vehicles were electric.

You could put solar panels in your yard and charge banks of
lead acid cells and have a low tech free energy vehicle.

Wouldn't go fast or far, but it would go.

All on caveman technology.

Yes, simple.

How about making your own bio fuel or even gasoline.

I will probably go with a steam car powered by chopped dried
vegetation like palmetto leaves.

Maybe convert one of the vehicles to a wood gassifier and
yes absolutely fuel could be distilled.

If I'm not mistaken it is technically unlawful to have
a still of any size.

Of those whacky politicians and their laws huh.

I have a Tesla X and We never 100 charge unless a trip and I honestly don’t “feel it “ in my electric bill. Been a good car.

Batteries only get so many charges. Buddy told me never half charge any battery because the battery life is being shortened you might as well wait for it to almost be dead and fully charge it everytime
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75958720

This.

Fully charge, then wait until virtually dead, then charge.

Good way to fuck up any battery is keep unnecessarily going through the charging cycle.

People destroy batteries on their Lap tops etc by leaving them plugged in to the charger charging constantly.

Then are shocked when the battery is fucked within weeks of buying.

I bet people do the same shit with EVs.

Small journey plug it in for a full charge Cycle.

Lithium batteries should not be charged greater than 80% nor discharged below 20%. Charging a lithium when the battery temperature is below zero Centigrade greatly shortens the number of re-charge cycles for the life of said battery. Same for a hot battery of 60 Cent and above.

Man Plugs $80k+ Electric Truck Into His House, Finds Out It Will Take Over 4 Days to Charge
[link to thefederalistpapers.org (secure)]

You’ve gone green and you’ve done it in style with the GMC Hummer, starting at $86,645. That’s right — the Hummer’s now a green vehicle! What was once the biggest villain in the left’s war on fossil fuels is now the poster child for responsible off-roading.

Level 1 charging

120V charging — This is the standard current your home already offers.

“Right now it’s about 6 p.m. on Tuesday,” the man says. “And it says it will be full by Saturday at 10:55 [p.m.], which is four-plus days of charging. Wow.”

Level 2 chargers $500 without installation

240v charger - upgraded home stations which deliver a higher electricity than a home circuit would be able to deliver

“Now it says it will be done tomorrow by 6:30 [p.m.]. So about 24 hours of charging from four percent to 100 percent.”

Fast Charging at a Station

Car and Driver went to an Electrify America charging station, where it cost over $100 to “fill up” the Hummer at 43 cents per kilowatt hour.

One more thing: If you tow anything, Your range diminishes pretty big time.

Best joke I've heard in a while.
 Quoting: Gypo O'Leary

Anyone who expected to charge on a standard 110v outlet did zero research and is a moran.

Installing a charger that runs at 240V is a must if you are serious about charging at home.

As far as $100 to charge the battery, what would have gas cost?

Moral -- electric is not cheap, requires an electrician install at you house, and is not cheap to charge at EA.
If you didn't know this ahead of time, you did zero research and are an eeejit. Of course, buying a Hummer qualifies you as and eeejit from the git-go.

Duh.

You'll need 200 ampere service to the house IF the street your on is not already maxed out and the power company turns you down. Then there's local zoning laws.

Seems a bit strange that the laptops don't have electronic controls
that offer battery mainanence options of stay charged options.

Do they?

EV's should only be for around town and for small vehicles like mopeds. HYbreds are more practical for distance.
