User ID: 81071993 Nicaragua 10/03/2022 08:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And the devastation is freaking insane. Quoting: Just Passing Through..... I was in Andrew in 92 and that was a 200mph Hurricane. I was 8 and I still remember our roof flying off and seeing my neighbors home collpase. Alot of people I remember had a sort of shell shocked look about them. I see it here as well. Lots of people walking around just in a trance. They have all the tell tale signs of being traumatized. I'm here on behalf of Florida Emergency management clearing trees and debris from high value/critical infrastructure. While I enjoy the insane amounts of money I'm making, I am not ok seeing my fellow Floridians devastated. There still is murmurs of over 1k dead. The storm surge that hit here did waaay more damage than wind ever could. I saw a 6 story condo with the water line up to the 3rd story!! Thats gotta be 20-25ft. I have smelled death already a couple times but luckily it isn't where I'm working. I'm based here close to the Ft Meyers Auto Auction. I have about a month of work here at least and I was able to hire about another 50 people temporarily while we do storm cleanup. I'm used to my little 13 or so employees so managing and planning for 65 employees is really fucking tough. Anyone here on GLP that is close by and can afford it, please be a good human and load your car or truck with diapers, water, baby formula, and trail mix or food like that, batteries, or blankets and bring them down. These are the things I'm seeing needed most right now. My wife is currently in route from N. Florida where she loaded my 20ft enclosed trailer with 6k worth of supplies for the people (especially the children) in the area I'm working right now. So, this is an update from a GLP'er actually on the ground working the cleanup. Seriously, any Glp'er wanting some green karma in real life please bring some supplies down and just pull into a neighborhood and unload. Its that easy. I will update as I can but its time to get cranked up and go dump the trailers so we can get started at sunrise. I HATE seeing my beloved state so devastated. Wow what a hero. And you got to drop an f-bomb and profiteering claim in there too. How gracious you are. Better than the asshole sitting behind a computer screen doing absolutely nothing but adding more negativity to the world. |

God bless you just passing through..I live here and the devastation Iis unbelievable. Our home escaped damage and flooding but some homes in our community were damaged and we have no power. Our side of 41 escaped the storm surge flooding but the west side of 41 wasn’t so lucky. Right now I’m at a friend’s house who does so I can shower and use internet. I’ve been volunteering doing wellness checks rather than sitting around. There are many elderly around here who are alone, cell service is very spotty and works only occasionally. Their cars are destroyed so they can’t drive anywhere. Family who are out of town haven’t heard from many and are worried. Today I’m going to help a friend whose restaurant was destroyed by the storm surge. There’s mud even in the ovens. Many restaurants right on the gulf were gutted. Imagine heavy restaurant equipment just washed away. Hurricane Irma was bad but this is on a whole different level. Storm surge is like a tsunami. The front end of the hurricane pulls water from the bay and the shores, the back end dumps it all back and it comes rushing back with incredible force. Before you think people somehow deserve this for living here, if they didn’t you’d have nowhere to staay, eat or recreate if they didn’t. You wouldn’t have Gulf fish to eat. People here work hard so vacationers can enjoy these things. They’re not rich but work hard for what they have. Don’t vacation in these types of places if that is how you feel. And many do not have the means to leave before the storm. OP, I think the auto auction is on Alico? |

But no rebuilding (homes, cities, utilities) should be done on the purse of anyone by the homeowner (for individual buildings) or city/state for government items) and companies (where they own the assets). The options should be: 1. People build sufficiently high/strong on their own dime 2. People build disposably on their own dime 3. People don't build |

If anyone is going down there, where should they bring supplies to? I have a friend going with a trailer next week Here’s a link to the distribution centers for relief, they can go to any of these places: [link to www.google.com (secure)] Iansucks |

I'm in Estero, on the west side of 41 snd about 1.5 miles from Estero Bay and about 3 miles as a crow flies to Fort Myers Beach. Our homes are in a gated community all survived, but most have shingle damage and soffit tiles out. Our homes with the exception of a group of condos are built with concrete block. My house was built in 1999 and was one of the last built here. I took a bike ride down Broadway which runs parallel to the Estero River, and the 2 trailer parks had major damage. Down at Estero River Heights which is basically on the estuary, all homes were flooded. Even the newer million dollar+ homes were hit by the storm surge. Saw a pontoon boat sitting in front of a nice home right up against front stoop. I happen to know the lady who sold that home about 6-7 years ago after her husband died, and she moved into my community and lives directly across the street from my brother. She had gone back there too to look at the devastation and make sure her friends made it through, but shed a lot of tears seeing her entire neighborhood destroyed. It was surreal seeing people just dragging all their possessions out to the curb. So many trees were down and all street name poles bent over or sign gone, that I didn't even recognize the landscape and even lost my bearing for a few moments. There were green truck, which were suspect to me as they said something like Rosie's Cleaning Service and had a magnet saying "A partner of FPL. They were all Hispanic only speaking Spanish, and I could hear a lady riding in the passenger seat giving orders to some younger man about what to pick up. On my way back home, I saw a few Lee County Sheriff Vehicles heading down there. I hope they got these scumbags that are trying to take advantage of those that just lost all their belongings. The thing the last few days, it smells terrible outside due to all the stagnant lakes that can't run the aerators or fountains that keep the water moving. I'm sure the death count will be going up drastically in the next few days. I have my two adult kids staying with me as I have power and wi-fi since Saturday. My daughter is a senior at FGCU which will re-open for classes on October 10. My son, who is an accountant for a company out of Raleigh, had relocated here a year and a half ago, and working remotely now. He's worn out as he has a second job working Publix at night, and did two 10 hour shifts Saturday and Sunday. He told me yesterday that so may of the customers were nasty rude. They had limits on # of cases of water a customer could buy (2), and some lady tried buying 5 cases. My son said he was proud of his manager (a lady) who walked up to the counter and said "Don't be so selfish!" and took 3 cases away. Nous sommes du soleil. -- We are of the sun. |
