The end of the world stuff is a myth pushed intentionally. The "nuclear winter" in particular has been shown to be bunk, every time a sizable enough wildfire or volcano puts a ton of particulates into the air the data comes back without any sign of the mechanism that is supposed to cause a nuclear winter.

The truth is they're just large bombs. A full-scale exchange of the entire arsenals of earth would likely only kill about 1 billion directly from the blast or the effects of the short half life radiation that lingers for a couple weeks, with another 2 or 3 billion dying within a year from starvation due to the logistical damage.

There is one group; however, that would reliably be killed by any such exchange: Large Governments.
