I used too. We would only get TV via antenna then just 3 or 4 channels. NO internet or cable.

The thing is it felt different there. Very peaceful and no strange feeling (paranoia, anxiety). Little to no people is what made it good in my opinion.

Re: Anyone live in extremely rural area?
In the Winter it is, as I have to go over two 10k feet passes to get there.
In the Summer on the motorcycle, it isn’t.
It is an excellent cruise thru the mountains.

I live way out in the boonies. Amish country. However...I've got fiber running to my Farm. Lol! average internet speed to my router is 870 Mbps.

VERY RELAXED!

Yes. .this is quarter breed gal. I'm still locked out of my account! I live on 55 acres in rural Alabama. I shared so much knowledge over the last twenty years here on glp and helped countless people with my alternative medicine info and herbalism ..I brought hundreds of people here to this website too ..and this is what I get for it. This place is a joke now. I'm as sincere as they come and my karma was mostly red. Fuck glp. I moved down here from Ohio to homestead six years ago...I have a YouTube channel...called Nellie's Farm. I try to educate others as I also learn to be self sufficient.

Don't feel bad. My karma is mostly red too. Who cares??
I will check out your u tube.

I'm in rural area. But not rural enough.

Yes. In the last 10 years internet got alot better. We have water co-op. With has great water and I usually get a check at the end of the year. Electric power outages suck because we're last on the list. As well as snow removal.. were a day or 2 behind the populated areas

I'm around the corner from extremely rural. I know I'm not quite as far out there though, in the early mornings. I can smell coffee from the thousands upon thousands of coffee pots when I go outside . I don't drink it. I doubt if the average person even notices it, or thinks that's what the great outdoors smells like in the early morning earthy dew.

Yes, I have moved to BFE...bum f'd e...,

The first night we were here, when I turned the light out to crash, I couldn't see shit. It's amazing how much night time ambient light pours into a room in the city. Also, the quiet took some getting used to.

After a few years now, I love it and wish I had done this years ago. Most rural people, at least near me, are good God loving folks. In the mid terms, our conservative candidate carried 89% of the vote, not perfect but much better than our old county.

Oh yeah, Starlink said we were on a waiting list, so I ordered it for our RV and now enjoy 100mbs in the morning when I am working. Streaming at night is starting to spool a lot, but even our fiber in the city did that

My rural area has cable internet. But cell phone at my residence is barely a bar or two and can’t make or receive calls from the downstairs. Have to go upstairs for cell signal. Only about two planes fly over per day. No chem trails in the immediate area. It’s wonderful, and yes, peaceful. When in the city I can feel the strange pressure, like a weight on my shoulders.

Re: Anyone live in extremely rural area?
It's funny how you say it's quiet, and I suppose it is compared to car noises, or people talking or their television sets or sirens, but in the summer the insects and the birds can be noisy. I have a mockingbird that sings in my backyard until 2:00 a.m. sometimes. He just keeps going through his repertoire.
In the winter at night I hear the coyotes, sometimes they are close or other times in the distance. I read somewhere that they have loops they do and they switch every couple weeks which makes sense. They seem to love our orchard for some reason. I also like starting in about mid-January when I can hear the great horned owls staking out their territory at night. I hear owls all year round but that time of year is special.

And don't forget the critters living in the walls. Lol

Mostly they scritch and scratch but once in awhile you get one who snores. Probably a possum or something.

And in the springtime you can't let the dogs out at night because the skunks are very active and the dogs are stupid. Next is the season of porcupines, where you also can't let the dogs run at night.

But yeah I wouldn't trade it for the world. I get all jittery in town. Sometimes even if I have to make a run to the grocery store, I quit 2/3 of the way through my list and just bolt, pay for my groceries and get out of town. And I know that silly, bordering on crazy but I just can't take all those people around me.

Yes. And having a few good friends who would do anything for you is better than having hundreds of acquaintances.

The only real noise we have is when the orchards turn on their fans. The sky is full of stars, the coyotes sing their songs, the air is fresh and clear.

To be clear fiber runs along the power-lines along the highway. My farm has a junction point and then from the fiber at the highway to my farm it's coax (about 200 yards).

I am a bit surprised too that fiber cable which I guess is connecting to a big city is running above ground...

Re: Anyone live in extremely rural area?
We live in the mountains in a small Christian
community forty miles in every direction from
any small town.

Moved here decades ago to escape the city "life"
and have never regretted it.

No cell phone signals, a few digital local TV
channels come in, but it's all garbage so we do
ROKU.

If you like the hustle and bustle, and malls,
and holdups, and break-ins, and car-jacking and
things like THAT, you'd HATE it here.

No police here, but everyone has an arsenal of
weapons that only get used in deer season.

Most people here still know all the "old ways"
and practice them (out of habit I guess), so they'd
be among the few survivors if everything stopped
or broke down.

We are a long helicopter ride from the nearest
hospital, and there are other disadvantages, but
they pale in comparison to the peace and serenity
of nature, and good Christian neighbors, and
zero crime that this little corner of America
provides.
