Why did roller skating die out?

I went to a roller rink several years ago, and the place was crowded with blacks (who didn’t know how to skate) blasting ghetto trash music on the central stereo.

Never went back.

Because it's hard to do while staring at a phone, and actually requires real interaction.

Still some roller rink here in so. Cal. Gets busy but not like the 70’s of course. Actually a work associate is a ref. In the so. Cal. Roller derby league. Its still around just not a marketable business. Maybe someone can crack that equation.

People in general got fat and unathletic. I was fat 20 years ago, but lost the weight. Fat people don't want to try to balance on skates.

I can remember being at the local skate rink as a tween 20+ years ago and seeing adults / older teens having sex in the locker area, getting high in the bathroom, people being escorted out by police, tweaking out, etc.

Cell phones were just telephones back then, texting hadn't really even taken off yet. To say what he was experiencing was new is either willfully ignorant or seriously incompetent as a business owner.

Depends on where you live.

We (Southern NJ) still have 2 of the 3 rinks that we had when I was a kid, and new owners made them better than they were then.

Friday night is "Adult Skate" and fun AF.

We take the kids on rainy days and they love it.
