You cycle a slide once when first loading a mag. After you dump the mag the slide stays open in a locked position until you insert the next one and drop the release button. Fun fact. I'm talking about handloads that are underpowered to hunt small game with.....they won't have the recoil energy to cycle the action....not so with a revolver.....I can custom load rounds for hunting various game animals.... A semiauto require a certain bullet shape and recoil energy to function.....a revolver can fire anything that fits in the cylinder....for practice, I made reloads from homemade blackpowder and reused a primer using the tip off a "strike anywhere" matchhead....the bullet was a soft lead ball tapped into case.... |

The idea here is that one can download a 357 below what would reliably cycle a slide on a semi auto. Fiddling with velocities always means that one has to compensate with the sights as point of impact changes from point of aim. Hunting squirrels and other small game don’t want to ruin too much meat so lower velocities. Hunting squirrels with a .357 seems a BIT extreme though. NO? LOL Not full house loads.....I made small game rounds that chronos around 500fps... soft lead wadcutter, it doesn't ruin the meat....they're pretty quiet too....or I can make .357 shotshells but I don't like picking out shot from the meat... You can load 40 long casul or 460 Hornady. You can build your loads as soft or as hard as you want. Never know when you're going to run into Mr squirrel or Mr grizzly. |
