Here's my footage from the launch! Incredible stuff....as always, thanks for sharing. Ask Alice when she's 10ft tall This is a battle for the future of civilization. Here's my footage from the launch! Dude, that shit was incredible!!!! But was there something going on with your software/gimbal? That's the shakiest launch footage I remember seeing from you. Regardless, THANK YOU for the footage! The re-entry and prelanding of the first stage is the best footage I have seen of that process. |

Yes, this was the first time that I tried to track an LZ1 landing using predictive tracking. I'm playing a trajectory file from flightclub.io in order to predictively track the launch to landing. Normally this works great, but with landings the timing is extremely critical. The trajectory file in this case had the landing occurring seconds after it really did. That means it thought it was still falling at terminal velocity while the landing burn was actually slowing it down, forcing me to fight it hard with the joystick. Even after it touched down it thought it was still falling at terminal velocity. What this means is I need to rewrite how predictive tracking works. Instead of joystick commands, simply providing directional correction on top of the trajectory file, it needs to rewind or fast forward the trajectory file by analyzing the vectors of my corrections and taking the sum vector along parallel directions as a command to go back or go forward through the trajectory file. That way if I'm telling the telescope that the vehicle is already lower than it thought it should be, it will assume it's already into the landing burn and start slowing down and when I reach the horizon it automatically comes to a stop. This also means that the telescope needs to have a pretty good understanding of where it's truly pointing instead of just pseudo aligning it by pretending to point at a star before launch. So I need to add in a command into the program to sync its location to the launch pad before launch. It's all very doable but it's a lot of work, but in the end it will make it much better at predictively tracking launch to landings like this. |
