User ID: 82126604 01/09/2023 12:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in my early 40s now, and when I look back at age 18 to present, I noticed that there were several people who magically showed up to guide me at various points. I had what seemed like an impossible career/interest goal for me when I was 18, although my intention was strong. I can see now that these people showed at some of the least expected places. The first happened when I was working at a Walmart. I hated the job due to boredom, but I met someone who happened to be the father of a very successful person who I was trying to imitate. He gave me some very good advice. I later met someone near the end of my university tenure. He was already beginning to be successful at his business then, but now he's one of the most well known in his field. We still keep in touch. There was another person I met later at a restaurant. There were others I don't need to mention. Quoting: StayCurious One thing I want to be clear about is, if you truly had an intention to do something, people will show up in your life. The trick is, you have to be ready for them. I wasn't ready for all the opportunities that came into my life. I couldn't recognize them all at the time. But I did for a few of them. If you hold on to your intention and just keep a lookout for these people, you never know where it could lead. People almost show up as guiding angels, but only if you're ready for them. Hard lesson I learned, I hope someone can benefit from reading this. Yeah, it’s called networking. Who you know is more important than what you know, or was brainwashed with in ”school”. |

It's about attracting the extremely rare people who can teach you something you don't know. A good environment is helpful, for sure, but you can meet these people everywhere in the most least expected of places. Last Edited by StayCurious on 01/09/2023 12:52 AM |

Let things unfold without expectation. Play the long game, things will take time… I don’t post much, but this is important. Synchronicity is real. Be ready. Stay humble. . |

So many times I was very close to doing the wrong thing or getting away with something that I shouldn't have done. I feel very luck that I was able to retired at age 50, 16 years ago. I was an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA. A great job that was never boring. It was very difficult for the first 3 years while training. So many time I just wanted to quit. Thankfully I made through. |

This is an amazing, valuable, sincere gem of advice -- the type of post that's worth putting up with/wading thru hundreds of Satanic sh*t/troll posts to come across -- as is sadly often the ratio here on GLP. Not a rich man but broke half a million USD for the first time this year (personal net income). My experience is same as yours....people come into your life that help "steer" you down a path if you're open to it and willing to act on it. |

Be gracious enough to understand you lack the wisdom of their experience. Something’s may not seem logical until you have lived awhile. Listen to the wisdom of your elders and strongly consider how your lack of experience and wisdom might taint your own thoughts. Wisdom is often gold. That is exactly what "life networking" is. You mentioned you were 40? I'm 55 so I understand I'm not your target audience. Just trying to help simplify things. I've tried to instill in my children that: * You can always learn at least 1 thing from everybody no matter how stupid you think they are so always pay attention to everyone and everything. * If you meet people that can possibly be an asset to you in the future, regardless of what industry they are in, be it either what they can teach you or who they know, those are the relationships you cultivate. It's your job to put the work in so make sure YOU are keeping in touch even if they are far away. * If people are a liability to you, even if they are family, you must cut them loose. |

That's definitely good advice. It's never really too late, unless you're on your last limbs sort of thing. Just don't fall into the trap of believing you're old. Great things happen to people later in life. Ideally, it's when we're young adults that we would start taking these steps. But honestly, I missed on many chances when I was young, but I fortunate to take advantage of a few of them. That guy I met at Walmart when I was 18, I asked him why he would even want to work there. He said he was "just looking for something to do". This was in a small town too. |
