The right question about Key bridge, can we even rebuild it . The 70’s was a different time . | |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 86065174 However, this time be sure to add protective fenders/dolphins. The Dolphins are made out of concrete. Other bridges have them. The Concrete Dolphins are sacrificed in order to protect the bridge from a wayward ship. This was all easily preventable. Seek the truth. Put on your Engineers hat. That's what I believed initially. However, this was a cargo ship with a dead weight of 113000 tons. The dolphins wouldnt be capable of stopping it. The only feasible solution would be building a large artificial island for them to run aground instead, which considering the depth, would be quite costly (not to mention lessening the width of the shipping channel so not ideal) |

Quoting: Rufus Juice Supposedly they want the Americas to be like EU with open borders. This is prob all part of the NWO agenda/takeover. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 82377488 United States 03/28/2024 03:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Exactly. While most people will cross safely, bridges give a platform for some to jump off of. This will increase the shark and aligator populations. Then we will have to close the beaches. This will ruin tourism, cause the loss of jobs, increase homelessness and fuel drug and alcohol dependency, leading to economic collapse. Be responsible; End bridges. |

DOT has to wait for funding or a bond for the project. Could be years. 2.) DOT will have to do it's on in house work prior to issuing it for bid. Probably a year or less unless they do an evaluation of the approach bridges and see that they may be in need of repair or replacement. So year and a half to 2 years. 3.) Once issued for bid the bidder will probably have 60 days to submit bids. 4.) DOT reviews and awards the bid. 5.) Multiple firms will be working on this. Civil, structural, Environmental, Geotechnical, MEP etc. etc. Design for a bridge of this scope just to put plans on the table to the DOT to review is an easy 2 years. 6.) DOT will have to do it's in house review of all scopes of the project. 6 months tops. 7.) All subs will have to revise things from the DOT. Couple months. That's all before any work is done besides demo work of the existing structure/structures. That bridge won't be complete within 10 years. If it is done faster than that it's because they will do a design build which would be a disaster on something of this scale. All correct and well laid out. You have existing or past experience. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 29706669 United States 03/28/2024 03:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Has anyone listed the names of the road workers who were on the bridge when it collapsed? They were all foreign born from central and south America. They couldn't even speak english. Now, when the bridge is rebuilt, the construction crews will not have to many American in the mix, only the folks who can speak Spanish. I doubt the EPA will allow the bridge to be built because of some unknown new species of snail darter that needs to be studied and what kind of impact the construction will have on its habitat. Ten year to complete, billions over budget, and within a year of its opening it will be closed for a while to correct construction deficienties. Also, look for other infrastructure incidents happening before the election. The Deep State needs to declare a state of Emergency and if a lot of bad things happen, the DS believes the populace will demand suspension of civil liberties in order to catch the perpetrators of the destruction. |

It is expensive. Sheet piling dolphins can be installed easily and filled with dredge material. The bridge is another issue. Just getting permits and design alone is a couple years if expedited. |

They have heard rumors that the ship systems were hijacked and believe it was by a Russian hacking group. They don't know if it was on behalf of Russia or China. If this goes through the proper channels, the shipping company would have to file a claim with their insurance. This would lead to an investigation that our government doesn't want opened. Biden and WH staff doesn't want our nation to know this can and will happen again. It also explains why military advisors were on scene as well. |

It certainly dances with the concept of treasonous fecklessness. Nothing shall be so certain as to permit confusion. |

User ID: 77504359 United States 03/28/2024 04:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If my dad was still alive he would have been devastated by the collapse of the key bridge. He was a south jersey kid and was in the Navy from 68-72 and he was on the newly rebuilt USS Saratoga in the early 70s, from where he saw the world. 17 countries he used to say. He had a fascination with ports, barges, bridges, all that stuff. Cranes at ports. Air craft carriers in port. We'd have to visit them. His favorite day trip was to fort McHenry. I was born in 75, so the bridge was new when I was a kid but he loved that whole inner harbor so much. It was only special because of that stuff. Fort HcHenry and the whole area was in its heyday. No one really takes the eastern side of the beltway unless they are going through Baltimore on 1-95 and want the scenic detour. It was a long, beautiful bridge, but there are like 6 other ways through if you count the tunnels. There's definitely an argument against rebuilding it. On our local radio, there's lots of talk about the Del Mem Bridge being way better managed than the Key bridge, but they are the same design. The Betsey Ross bridge is also the same type. Someone came up with the bright idea to pay a sizeable bonus for every day earlier than the estimate that the project was finished by. That shit was knocked out quickly. It was reported at the time to be one of the most efficient and timely jobs in LA Metro history. What will grind down the project is the injection of stupid DEI requirements, which will ensure that the dumbest and least qualified will be leading the charge. Buck Tardwater |
