Wouldn't want to live on the stuff, but what if you needed to have a wisdom tooth pulled in a survival situation? Or even worse, amputation?

The opium can be harvested from growing poppys by putting tiny pricks throughout the bulb, then scrape of the milky sap that is excreted. As far as further processing I don't know though.

I wonder though if the commercial poppy seeds you buy, even if you can germinate and grow poppys, will the next generation of seeds produce plants?
Ie - do they have that nasty Monsanto 'terminator gene'?
