Found that disappointing. I liked "The Road", I thought it was a deep, quite horrific view of an apocalyptic world and sad to boot. More thought provoking and bare boned in it's depiction. How it is considered Christian propaganda by some though is beyond me but perhaps I missed the bashing. Spoiler alert: Did you notice, when in the bunker, footsteps, boy said "Like a dog". Notice end, family said ,".. been following you" ,...notice dog? There is so much more to this film that perhaps some realise. There are moral dilemmas between father and son and sometimes, it is the son teaching the father. Perhaps this is why the father refers to the son as his God, his world. Here, I begin to see why some might interpret it religious proselyting during their perambulations but it goes beyond that and is only described in ways the audience can understand. I'm almost sure the father no longer has a belief in anything apart from survival , especially that of his son and the son is simply reminding the dad of what it is to be human and in possession of a personal moral code when everything around you is going to pot. "The Book of Eli" was superb in that the action is incredible. It falls short of "The Road" for content though and the main focus is not that "memorable" but definitely a great film and you will not be wasting your time taking a look. |

What fucking action. 90% of this so called action was in the previews Yeah, I didn't actually mention that the film was full of it but what I should have said was that what there was of it , to me ,was very impressive, so impressive that I would like to watch it again. Sure, there is only , on the road, in the bar, outside the bar, at the house, there's quite a bit of action, maybe more than the 10 % you claim but a good blend of story and action, complete with quality acting, directing and production can be a lot better than some Steven Segal body count, blood fest. Oldman`s and Washington`s acting is high calibre, as usual and the premise of Washington`s belief in his "immortality" until the mission is achieve and subsequent demise is thought provoking as you sometimes get the impression that while sometimes some things only happen by chance perhaps there is some kind of protection at work. He's mentions of how the world was cracked anda voice that spoke to him , this lends entertaining mystery. There is one moment when the henchman had his chance and never took it,I like to think it's because he realised it would do him no good. |

No great speeches, no heroes and no action scenes but it scared the crap out of me and I remember every scene to this day. Hollywoods biggest mistake is to assume it's audience have the attention span of a gnat and need either noise, sex or overblown drama to hold their interest. Give me British films any day over Hollywood. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 859394 United States 02/02/2010 04:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just saw the Book of Eli and all I can say is wow. Hollywood finally did something right! Quoting: Follower of JesusGreat movie. I haven't seen it, but read the over-view. Why is it a great movie when it still will have the same redundant scripture for bible pushing freaks wanting to confine and limit themselves to apocalyptic earth. No religion on earth has yet taught man how to transcend. I think it would have been a much better film, if an ancient manuscript was discovered that teaches man how to transcend the limitations of 3D through his own inner powers. How ironic that it's the bible sought and fought after in this movie. |
