Anonymous Coward User ID: 909831 United States 01/31/2011 08:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in central Ohio. We're supposed to get over .5" of ICE. YIKES I'm ready, though. The last time we had an ice storm, trees broke off like match sticks, power was out forever. Keep us posted regarding what's going on in your location, 'cause it's moving OUR way. Thanks |

Anyway...Funny...I just got an e-mail from Sears the department store...."Heavy snow is predicted in your area..Be prepared" then selling snow equipment and such.. LOL...Geez someone really does care !!!!! |

I was on my way to play Warhammer 40,000, which I do nearly every Monday and fell on my ass as soon as I stepped out the door. It's okay, though. Orks aren't competitive anymore anyway... C'mon, snownami, take all the power lines down, do your worst!!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1009104 United States 01/31/2011 10:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nothing in Dayton, yet. As of 9pm eastern. Drive from Columbus was clear and dry. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1151839I'm sure it won't be in the morning. sigh. Really? I'm in Miami County and we've had a sheet of ice for at least the past hour. Everything is already covered here. The windows even have a sheet of ice over them. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1009104 United States 01/31/2011 10:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm just south of Dayton Ohio and we aren't having much at the moment. I can't figure out what we are supposed to get here? A half inch of ice doesn't sound too bad? I'm missing something I guess. I'm sure I'll regret saying this tomorrow. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1251344A half an inch of ice will break tree branches and pull power lines down. That will be the bad part. We've lived in this house for 6-1/2 years and the power hasn't gone out yet. Not even during that huge wind storm. So this will be interesting. |

I'm in Kettering and there is a really thin layer of ice out there but it has stopped. I guess I've never been though and ice storm so I don't know what to expect. During the wind storm we lost power for 9 days and it was rough, but at least the weather was really nice. I do worry the power will go out and I have a 3 year old, so I'm not sure what I'd do. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 845302 United States 01/31/2011 10:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in South Bend Indiana area. Supposed to get 12 - 24 inches of system snow followed by up to an equal amount of lake effect snow, with 30-60 mph winds, whiteouts, and lots of drifting. Everyone here's expecting to be shut in for a day or three, and comparing it to the great blizzard of '78 when we got 36 inches and the whole area was paralyzed for a full week. |
j. User ID: 1316 United States 01/31/2011 10:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was crossing the Blue Ridge Mts. around 6 pm at Mt. Weather on Rt. 55 and the sleet was very heavy, looked like the road was smoking. I felt the car slide a few times and prayed my way through it. Soon as I was over the mountain on Rt. 17S, it stopped. It's coming, though- the mountains slowed it down. |

I know. We never prepare for anything before. But we have two kids and that changes things. Biggest thing is heat. We have a gas fireplace that we never use, so we'll just have to turn that on an live in that room. We stocked up on food today, so we're fine there. I know we'll be fine, but there are a lot of people who aren't ready. I think DP&L will be on the ball. They had no warning for the wind storm. This time they've had time to get ready, so hopefully they'll get things fixed fast if anything happens. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1251344If the power goes out, all sleep together. Put a blanket UNDER the sheet, as well as many as possible on top. Layers, layers, layers are better than just thick stuff. And cover every part of the body. Hat, scarf, gloves. |

I have food stocked up but really do worry about not having heat. I'm just hoping since all the trees were tore up after the wind storm and we have new power poles/lines in our area that may help. Don't know but I did hear DP&L has crews from TN on stand by for help. Any ideas on how to keep warm with electric everything??? |

And probably cover your doors and windows with blankets so you don't lose as much heat. My parents' furnace kicked the bucket in the winter and my mom told me the house stayed around 55 degrees. So, it's not going to be like deathly cold in the house...just very uncomfortable. So I'd probably just cover windows and doors, maybe close up a room and stay in there. Get some candles. If you can get out in the morning, pick up a hurricane lamp. Is there a Kmart around there anywhere? My mom was at the one in Englewood today and they had them for $5. They actually get pretty hot. I guess a few flames won't do that much, but I'd think they'd give off some heat and help. Just be super careful. |

The best 6 months would have to be spring/autumn nice medium of not to hot and not to cold |
