Long duration C1.5 eruption. It appears to be a filament liftoff near the NW limb. Two new sunspots are emerging in the NW also but don't seem to be directly ralated to this event. Possibly a CME from this.

After about 60 days of increased activity, Sol seems to be taking a rest to recharge. There's still a lot of disagreement about Cycle 25's strength or weakness. Here's the latest news I've found.....

THE SUN IS WAKING UP — RIGHT ON SCHEDULE


Now, the uptick in activity seems to mark a change in the Sun’s behavior. Lisa Upton (Space Systems Research Corporation), co-chair of the Solar Cycle 25 Prediction Panel, says that for the first time in 50 years, this solar cycle seems to be stronger than the one before it. She and colleague David Hathaway are predicting that this cycle will be up to 30% more active.......

.....However, she emphasizes that we shouldn’t expect too much from the Sun’s current activity. “The cycle is following very nicely along the strongest/earliest of [the panel’s] predictions and is certainly on track to be another weak cycle,” she adds.

“We still consider this cycle to be below average,” confirms panel co-chair Doug Biesecker (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). “Even with the recent activity, the sunspot number is still within the error bars of the solar cycle prediction from the panel.”

MYSTERY OF THE SUN'S CHEMICAL MAKEUP LINGERS

There are two ways to work out what the Sun is made of. The first, called spectroscopy, looks at the Sun’s spectrum. Precise wavelengths of light are missing from this spectrum because they’ve been swallowed by different elements within the Sun.

The second method is called helioseismology and measures sound waves bouncing around inside the Sun. The waves sometimes make it to the solar surface, causing it to pulse. The chemical makeup of the Sun alters how these sound waves travel, so their unique patterns are another way to take a solar inventory.

Using these tools to understand what the Sun is made of is important work, because we use the Sun as a benchmark for modeling all the other stars in the universe.

QUIET WITH A CHANCE OF FLARES: With only three sunspots on the visible disk of the sun, solar activity is low. NOAA forecasters say there is a slight 5% chance of M-class flares today. The most likely source would be slowly-growing sunspot AR3025.

Solar winds and great magnetic storms are scouring away the surface of Mercury. The data from NASA's Messenger mission has been analyzed for this new paper. The measurements were taken from 2011-2015 which happened to coincide with the last Solar Maximum.

Sun et al. investigate the effect of these showers on the planet's surface using data collected by NASA's MESSENGER (Mercury Surface, Space Environment, Geochemistry, and Ranging) spacecraft, which orbited Mercury between 2011 and 2015. As the spacecraft passed through Mercury's magnetopause and toward the surface, the onboard ion mass spectrometer, FIPS (Fast Imaging Plasma Spectrometer), recorded the local abundances of sodium group ions, including sodium, magnesium, aluminum, and silicon ions.

Hey guys, thanks for keeping the thread updated , I started feeling some impending doom feelings that have got me really miserable today, last time this feel descended we had an x flare about 36 hrs later. Just thought I’d share in case we get one

Anyone else gave these doomy feelings pre flare, then fatigue during and then energy rushes afterwards?

I don't usually feel anything prior (or at least never noticed), but during/after I get either the fatigue or big burst of energy. One time I got completely knocked on my ass with the worst headache of my life. I had to lay down and close my eyes, it hurt so bad. Never had another episode like that one. But it happened at the same time a CME was hitting us. Could be a coincidence, but the fatigue and/or energy has been consistent for years now.

I first became most curious about the "bodily effects of SOLAR STORMS/GRBs"
when our darling actress "Princess Leah" from the
Star Wars movies fame suffered a fatal heart attack at
high altitude Xmas 2017.

Carrie Fisher was aboard an intercontinental flight between
Europe and L.A. December 23rd 2017 when she had what was
earlier reported in media as an "episode." (Yeah...a
spaceweather-episode including a heart attack!)

Sadly, Carrie Fisher's mom, actress Debbie Reynolds--suffered
a stroke from the stress of Carrie's passing and she ALSO died
5 days later on December 28th. (There was never any media
report TO LINK Carrie's stroke with the solar storm/GRB's)
However, solar reports--including THIS THREAD on GLP--were following
"big" solar storms during that same week! So, we GLP "solar-tards"
can connect-the dots on what happened to Carrie, right?

"active" solar/Earth connectivity point) :


This past week especially between the 25th and the 31st
I have had reports of friends in our area having physical
symptoms from solar activity (and a very large long-duration
GAMMA RAY BURST from the Constellation 'Scorpius.") Together
the energies from this up-tick sent my neighbor to the E.R.
She reported she was "so dizzy I couldn't even look down
because the room would spin." (She reported she had NOT
had "dizzy spells" as a rule, that they appeared "out of
the blue!" This lasted well over a week--she was terrified, of course...She had a mild stroke.)

(This HUGE Gamma Ray Burst was recorded on the 27th May.)

As we are entering "Solar Maximum" I would imagine that
we can expect more "physical symptoms" from spaceweather!
Keeping a daily journal of your symptoms and that day's
solar activity would probably benefit in seeing "trends" yourself.
Certain areas of the country are more solar-connected than other areas,
and of course HIGH LATITUDE locations (like the Montana high deserts and mountains for
my own family) would intensify those effects. Hope that helps.

Just sayin! We need to give our attention to solar activity
and GRB's with regard to our daily activities--and this
goes EXTRA important for the "seniors."

WEAK CME IMPACT PREDICTED: Yesterday, a magnetic filament on the sun erupted, hurling a faint CME into space. NOAA forecasters say it could hit Earth's magnetic field on June 5th or 6th. Even weak CME strikes can cause geomagnetic storms, so there is a chance of minor G1-class storms when the CME arrives.

REVERSED POLARITY SUNSPOT: A new and unusual sunspot emerged in the sun's southern hemisphere yesterday: AR3027. It is a reversed polarity sunspot. In other words, its magnetic field is backwards.

According to Hale's Law, Solar Cycle 25 sunspots in the sun's southern hemisphere should have a +/- polarity. That's positive on the left, negative on the right. However, the magnetogram above shows the opposite. Sunspot AR3027 is breaking the law!

Studies show that about 3% of all sunspots violate Hale's Law. In some ways, reversed polarity sunspots act totally normal. For instance, they have the same lfespan and tend to be about the same size as normal sunspots.

In one key way they are different: According to a 1982 survey by Frances Tang of the Big Bear Solar Observatory, reversed polarity sunspots are more than twice as likely to develop complex magnetic fields, in which + and - are mixed together. Reversed polarity sunspots are therefore more likely to explode.

AR3027 could become a source of flares in the days ahead. Stay tuned!

It’s coming!

Geeze! Our Star has been very busy the past 2 days!

Beautiful images coming from "Nemesis Maturity" YouTube channel
gives us a close-up look at the TWO 1,000's of KM long
SOLAR FILAMENTS which erupted from the sun's surface
yesterday (6-02-2022 in the early morning hours.) This
info apparently was not up on the SOHO site or I would
have caught it for a post.

AN EARTH-DIRECT CME, according to Nemesis Maturity in
the video (below) shows the FILAMENT erupted very early
in the morning hours (EST) on Friday with one CME heading
out about 1 hour earlier than the 2nd CME. (Only 1 CME
is reported to be earth-bound around 6-05-2022.)

But wait! We're NOT done yet!

Early This morning 6-04-2022 yet another 1,000s KM long
filament eruption lifted off from the Northern area of
the Sun. This would have been around 1:00 A.M. EST this
morning. Possible more activity is up for the remainder
of the day on this Shavout Saturday 2022. There is a
remaining filament located just ABOVE the one which destablized
this A.M. that could be a candidate to erupt soon.

We could be in for a long sunspot drought, it the past is any indicator. Cycle 24 had massive uptick in 2012 and then calmed down until late 2013 peaking-out in 2014. Every cycle is unique so anything can happen, but these active periods tend to come in waves.

Shock Passage Detected

What appears to be a minor shock passage was just detected by the DSCOVR spacecraft. The Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is tipped south at the moment and this could boost geomagnetic activity once it arrives past Earth within the hour.

A STRANGE NEW SUNSPOT: A new sunspot is emerging in the sun's southern hemisphere--and it's a little strange. For one thing, it is circular. For another, its magnetic field is tilted 90 degrees away from normal sunspots. This one merits watching.

Howdy, Simple 27 and all the lurkers out there....

WE had a C2.66 slow eruption from near the NE limb. These sunspots are probably remnants of the large AR's we've watched for the past 2 or 3 rotations.
